There is a need for one to understand how individual and shared perceptions are likely to affect different situations. When engaging in conflict management one has to take individual perceptions into consideration to ensure that no party feels left out from the process. This can be achieved by ensuring that each person is listened to and there is someone to control the process. A leader has to consider followers’ behavior to ensure that the approach used aligns with them. Focusing on individual insights and habits helps to inform on possible approaches to specific situations.
Individual perceptions can only be addressed during conflict management by listening to the concerns and issues raised by conflicting parties. This is necessary for one to understand where a conflict is coming from and what each party wants for it to end. Addressing individual perceptions can play a significant role in smoothening the conflict management process (Meem, 2020). Another way in which individual perceptions can be taken into consideration during conflict management is having someone to guide the process.
The readings and discussions carried out during the week can change my leadership approach in relation to how I observe behavior. As a leader, I will have to focus on identifying and understanding the behavior of people around me rather than developing individual perceptions about them. This will enable me to have a leadership approach that puts each person’s behavior into consideration. To understand how shared perceptions may be influencing individuals and departments I might have to interview different people. This will enable me to limit the negative impact that shared perceptions are likely to have on individuals and departments.
In conclusion, addressing individual points of view and habits helps to inform on possible approaches that can be applied to specific situations. Individual perceptions can be addressed during the conflict management process by actively listening to involved parties. Each party should be given the chance to air out their concerns and have them addressed during conflict resolution. Thinking about how shared perceptions may be affecting individuals and departments will require me to interact with my followers.
