Having a significant interest in art exhibitions, I could not resist the desire to visit a Chrysler Museum of Art on the eleventh of December. The inspiring art was overwhelming and had an impressive influence on the thoughts that I had during the day. I would like to point out that the Gauguin and Renoir art exhibits touched me the most and motivated to discuss pieces of art created by two talented masters. The purpose of the paper is to provide the report making an accent on experiencing the impressive art.
The collection of the masterpieces created by European painters in the Chrysler Museum of Art offers attendees a large spectrum of paintings starting from the Renaissance to the Modernism period. The jewel-like painting by Paul Gauguin The Loss of Virginity is one of the most cryptic pieces in the museum that attracts s lot of visitors.
The other title is The Awakening of Spring and was created in 1891. It is significant to note that the enigmatic work was created in Paris when Paul Gauguin had a strong interest in Symbolism (Winer, 2013, p. 73). The Breton scenery with a nude young lady resting on the ground with the fox, the symbol of lust, and the wedding ceremony on the background is depicted in the painting. Some researchers view the ceremony as an ironic element. The way Gauguin painted the naked woman is similar to Olympia by Manet (Gamboni & Miller, 2014, p. 143).
The symbolic meaning was chosen on purpose as the artist aimed to depict his supporters in the painting. The work awakens controversial feelings as the usage of symbols plays not a significant role in the contribution of the mood or atmosphere creation. The fox stands for lustful and in some way, even devilish nature, whereas the cyclamen can be seen as the allusion to the defloration. The work was created with the impact of Gauguin’s personal life under social circumstances. Gauguin left the girl, posing for him in the picture, pregnant. Some of the researchers assume that the fox can be viewed as Gauguin itself.
The painting by Pierre Renoir The Daughters of Durand-Ruel was created in 1882 and now inspires the attendees of the Chrysler Museum of Art. It should be stated that Renoir painted a number of portraits of the Durand-Ruel children. Paul Durand-Ruel was an active supporter of the impressionism and an art dealer (Brodskaya, 2014, p. 63).
The work is well-known for the technique of pure impressionism. Two sisters posing for the master are depicted on the canvas. The work seems to be shining from the inside and leaves the warm feelings of summer and the quiet day full of happiness and emotions. The technique used by the author contributes to a better emotional understanding of the painting.
In conclusion, it should be stated that the paintings The Daughters of Durand-Ruel by Pierre Renoir and The Loss of Virginity by Paul Gauguin had the most significant influence on me while visiting the Chrysler Museum. It is significantly important to have an opportunity to enjoy such impressive works as they represent not only the points of view of the artist but also capture the entire historical period. Although the works are different in techniques, colors, and artistic messages, the works can be considered as pieces of art, are touching and inspiring, and leave the visitors with some thoughts and questions.
