Plastic pollution is extremely harmful to different marine organisms because of causing their entanglement and indigestion in most cases. Furthermore, plastic garbage found in the ocean is dangerous because it has accumulated a lot of toxic chemicals in high concentrations (www #1; www #2). Accordingly, plastic eaten by marine organisms and affecting their environment becomes hazardous for all species while leading to the situation when fish are eaten by a man can be poisoned by certain toxins. The most surprising thing associated with the plastic accumulation issue is the fact that plastic objects can be viewed as coming from the ocean as products made of petroleum formed after the ancient plankton (www #1). Thus, plastic affects the modern plankton in the ocean, causing a range of ecological issues (www #3). As a result, areas similar to the East Pacific (North Pacific) garbage patch can be discussed as killing marine organisms in many ways.

The problem is also that the East Pacific (North Pacific) garbage patch is not exceptional, and scientists identify other plastic areas related to gyres that are systems of circulating currents attracting garbage. There are five specific gyres of plastic in the oceans. In addition to the North Pacific Gyre, there are also the North Atlantic Gyre, the South Pacific Gyre, the South Atlantic Gyre, and the Indian Ocean Gyre. These territories are characterized by the concentration of different types of marine debris (www #4). However, it is also important to state that the East Pacific garbage patch is rather unique in its concentration of plastic on a large area that is discussed as the widest plastic accumulation zone in the oceans (www #5). There are risks that this zone will potentially increase in the future.
