Who the organization is

Primo smallgoods is an Australian-based organization that deals in the production of bacon, ham, meat-related products, and small goods. (PFG, 2010) It is, therefore, a national organization, although it does supply to other countries throughout the world and actually boasts of a large export market. The General manager also falls within this category and his function is to think of new company strategies as well as regulatory affairs that may affect the company. Corporate counsel is mostly responsible for social responsibility and environmental concerns. After this level, the firm has a series of line managers responsible for the day-to-day operations of its plants and other business units.

The company’s activities mostly fall in the meat industry, poultry industry, and small goods section. Through continuous investment in technology for the operation, storage, and distribution of its goods, this firm has grown to become a household name. (Primo Smallgoods, 2010b) The company normally engages in the manufacture of its products and in order to do this, it has a number of plants in Queensland, New South Wales, and South Australia. Not only does the latter firm engage in the production of its commodities, but it also packages them through a number of packaging facilities and distributes them through its warehouses. In totality, the company can be classified as a wholesaler and manufacturer. This is because it distributes some of its goods and even markets them as well to the general public. Also, its raw materials are usually obtained from within Australia. Therefore, it cannot be regarded as an importer; instead, it exports its products to countries like the Philippines, India, Sri Lanka, New Guinea, New Zealand, Fiji, Dubai, and many more (Primo Smallgoods, 2010c). In fact, the latter firm has an export division responsible for all the market, research, and distributions made to these countries.

Theory-stakeholder

The stakeholder theory holds that constituents within an organization have varied interests. Therefore, an organization must put into consideration these differing perspectives whenever making its decisions so as to create cohesion; this contributes towards the overall success of the organization (Freeman, 2003), (Lee, 1995) & (Adle et al, 1997). The stakeholder theory incorporates a wide range of perspectives such as market-based analyses (Samantha & Friedman, 2002), political and social analyses (Hemmati et al, 2002) as well as resource-based perspectives. In this school of thought, precedence is given to morals and business ethics as a whole (Blattberg, 2004).

Identification of stakeholders

Mostly, the firm is in charge of its own advertising, marketing, and distribution strategies. However, from time to time, it does source other companies to carry this out. For instance, when it utilizes a certain type of media such as the internet to advertise, it will do so in collaboration with other organizations. An example here is True local which is a business directory on the internet that assists primo to establish a strong online presence. The company (Primo) has worked with Ernst and Young during its acquisition of Hans’s small goods. The latter audit firm assisted Primo in the transference of assets and administration of the newly acquired interests (Ernst and Young, 2010). Primo has a wide range of suppliers- an example is Stevens construction which was critical in the building of a 9 million dollar project to distribute its commodities. It also partners with local councils to fund some of their projects such as the Wyong Shire council (Clarke, 2009). This was done in collaboration with the state and regional development departments. Other engineering firms that have helped make Primo’s fleet a success are Lindeh which assisted in designing and building a warehouse truck to handle primo’s large fleet of meat and other products (Lindehmh, 2007). This company uses ARZ as a transporter. ARZ is a well-established transporter of frozen or refrigerated foods and commodities in Australia (ARZ, 2010). Advertising is normally done by the firm itself in order to identify the interests of its consumers.

Conclusion

Primo Smallgoods is a success story in the meat, poultry, and small goods industries because it takes direct control of most of its processes. It also has a very strong local presence and this has enabled it to access funding from local councils and government departments. Additionally, because it uses local transporters, distributors, and contractors, then the firm is providing employment to local individuals and this has contributed tremendously towards its success.
