Stating the social changes and current trends one may apparently claim that the society of the United States is far from piece in its streets and within the crowds of people. The rates of criminal activity are rather high. Many of people tend to take for granted the special regions where the mob influence is felt with the cases of juvenile delinquency or other types of crime. Most of the population is intended to think that the most “comfortable” place for criminals and those who are attempting to cross the border of justice is in the prison with its cruel realities and a lifestyle which prison suggests its “visitors.” Another point concerns a fair question about the effects of jail which can be predicted for today’s murderer in the future. Is the method of placing criminals in jails so effective for the society and for further life of such asocial elements? According to the psychological as well as logical approach as of the problem under analysis the more a man faces with restraints provided by justice, the more he/she wants to repeat some ominous actions in contrast.
Trying to maintain the fair attitudes towards those who do not deserve to live in a society subdued to the power of law the social structures in any democratic country are deeply convinced in the way of suchlike rehabilitation which a prison gives to its “attendants”. People are proposed to think over their deeds and harmful effect which they caused toward society in a wide perspective of piece, harmony, and strong control in the relationships of human beings while providing their activities. Researchers tend to think that nowadays a traditional way of placing criminals in prisons is the most effective, but there is a grave question as for the reliability of such perspective in its efficacy. The point is that prison is full of people from different layers of the society and with various reasons of why they once appeared in prison. The flow of this thought reaches the standpoint that for many real criminals living in a prison becomes a treatment for their broken psyches and an appropriate way of life with which they are easily accustomed.
In accordance with a traditional way of thinking about crimes, criminals, and punishment it is true somehow that prisons make influence on criminals. One can hardly reject a fresh essence of freedom, when there is enough space for a man to provide his working or leisure time. The limitation which is considered with jail is temporal, but such a great space of time makes people evaluate probably the points about the sense of life and what is worth in it. The field of values is, undoubtedly, touched upon, because a man is able to experience different feelings in his souls. Mentally a man is capable to work out the reasons of why he/she is a prisoner at the moment and what goals should be vital for further correction of mindset and life surroundings for better safety and separation from a bad world of crime and violence. That is why I think that imprisoning is humane, because it serves for humane initiatives concerned with rationality in living space and workspace as well. On the other hand, if one can object that it is not humane, than how should be evaluated the motives for crime? They are definitely lack of humane prospects and a concept of philanthropy has nothing to do in this case. Prison works as a deterrent. Its mechanism presupposes a way for an individual throughout the hell and cruelty within the company of merciless and devoid of any good intention men.
A crime can be estimated from the psychological point of view. In other words, people commit crimes because of the primordial motives which were a sort of stimulus for making this inner intention materialized. That is why the reason of murders made by people of different age should be destroyed primarily in the childhood. The state programs of maintaining the psychological support and trying to make children go a right way while thinking, saying, or doing something. Moreover, the results of such, for the first sight primitive methods, can shift all possible expectations in the short and long run. The healing of the society can be achieved by means of vital and influential social programs making impacts on peoples’ mentality every now and then. The help of psycho analytics can be odd when the state government is capable to work out the problem root and branch today. Prisons can also empty due to the provision of positive economic, educational, and social background for better life in communities. Prophylactic treatment is rather helpful and effective for the society than treatment itself.
Another argument toward the effectiveness can be considered in maintaining the status quo in the society. Answering the claims that jails deal with effects rather than causes, the apparent answer would be that these effects also have to be dealt with. The system of justice has always been present through the history of mankind, where every crime had its punishment in all religions. In that way, this system prevented the society from turning into a chaos. In that regard, dealing with the causes and effects of crimes address different issues, where dealing with causes decrease the crime rate, while dealing with the effects will keep the society in balance. Being realistic in that matter, involves realizing that crimes are inevitable, and thus the consequences of their crimes should be addressed as much as their causes.
Regarding to the ideas above there may some opposing ideas happen. Among them is the point that the nature of a man is always struggling between good and bad sides, and it is hard sometimes for people to resist their emotions and bad traits of character. Others think that there is nothing new for criminals than a prison and there is no way for a criminal than to drop into a jail.
To sum up, the prison as a way for rehabilitation is effective because of the cruel reality there which makes people think of their actions and the way of further correction as well. It does not work because of a great range of recidivists who serve as grave examples for jails’ inefficacy. Nonetheless, imprisoning is rather humane for those who reiving of life do not deserve being alive. In other words such measure as imprisoning is a kind of encouragement for criminals.
