Introduction

Family nurse practitioners entail proficient registered nurses whose job descriptions encompass the provision of diagnoses and health promotion (Marty, 2014). While they can tend to a vast array of residents, FNPs mainly concentrate on patients within family groupings, hence the title. This paper embodies a discussion of my imminent career path in the FNP context. I have delineated varied aspects regarding this discipline such as the type of firms I see myself working in, the number of patrons served, and my professional fit. I have also discussed the acts of the FNP doctrine as prescribed by the state’s board of nursing, precisely Georgia.

Body

As Marty (2014) remarks, a family nurse practitioner has many choices as regards the types of employment firms and medical facilities where he/ she would like to work. Among these extensive selections, including nursing homes, doctors’ offices, clinics, assisted living facilities, residential homes, geriatrics, pediatrics, oncology, and women’s health settings. In my capacity as a collegiate family nurse practitioner, however, I yearn to specialize in the General Practice field (GP). I already have my eyes set on Presence Health as my ideal employer once I graduate from the University. Situated in Illinois, Presence Health constitutes the largest Catholic health entity in the region (Shields, 2014). The facility entails a consolidation between two established hospitals namely Resurrection Health Care and Provena Health, asserts Devitt (2011).

Presence Health furnishes comprehensive health care to residents all over the county. As provided by Shields (2014), the incorporation encompasses an aggregate of 12 hospices, 27 assisted living complexes, behavioral health facilities, and numerous physician offices among others. I aspire to work with Presence Health as the firm attracts, venerates, and sustains competent medical specialists. I look forward to working in coloration with the enrolled pharmacists, nursing assistants, technologists, occupational therapists and licensed practical nurses. The facility impels extensive teamwork for purposes of attaining collaborative therapeutics and customer satisfaction quotes Shields (2014). The remuneration and benefits offered are incredibly attractive as they include pension, tuition assistance, development schedules, and retirement plans.

As outlined by Devitt (2011), the Catholic-inspired establishment targets numerous patrons suffering from obesity, chronic diseases, and mental disorders. The hospital treats patients afflicted with diabetes, hypertension, epilepsy, arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, iron overloads, kidney, and liver diseases (Shields, 2014). Presence Health endeavors to address health screenings, health fair participation, and disease alleviation. I expect that the conglomerate will serve more or less 500 inpatients on a daily basis, considering its multiple subsidiaries and physician offices. If this is the case, the hospice will oversee approximately 182,500 patients in a single year. This customer employment is a positive sign for all stakeholders, patients, and healthcare specialists. It denotes the high profitability and productivity of the facility, hence my interest in working there.

It is not easy to bestow commendable healthcare that surpasses customers’ anticipations and presumptions, asserts Marty (2014). Such gratifying services and provisions are the ultimate results of talented medics and nurses alike. I believe that I fulfill the qualifications of the FNP’s professional role as regards the company’s objectives and prerequisites. My professional fit in Presence Health is thanks to my expansive educational background, credentials, and practical, hands-on experience. As required, I possess verified work experience and advanced training as a registered nurse in varied establishments. In my capacity as a family nurse practitioner, my specified duties will entail medicine prescription, patient checkups, physical testing, well-child examinations, prenatal, and health promotions. As regards the implementation of these tasks, I plan to collaborate with my fellow colleagues and professionals. Incorporating effective teamwork with my peers will surely establish a supportive framework that will help me amplify my practice and strengthen my vocational/ personal life.

Regarding Georgia’s Board of Nursing Act, FNPs are subordinate to physicians and have no choice but to work under their supervision (Marty, 2014). Georgia’s Nurse Protocol has entrusted ‘delegating physicians’ with the mandate of observing the medical procedures performed by nurse practitioners (Shields, 2014). However, the protocol also demands that the physicians have to be available for spontaneous consultations. The Nursing Act accords the physician’s absolute power in the domination of FNP medical reviews and observations, says Marty (2014). Regardless, the United Advanced Practice Registered Nurses of Georgia (UAPRN) advocates for the amelioration of nurse practitioners in general. FNPs can now engage in extensive education programs and volunteer in professional set up organizations for purposes of working at the top of their licenses (Devitt, 2011). In collaboration with UAPRN, FNPs can now access efficient networking platforms for purposes of enhancing the quality of the advanced nursing doctrine.

Conclusion

As regards my career path, I have set my heart on Presence Health as the consummate entity to work with in the future. It proffers excellent working conditions, productive teamwork, and a commendable learning atmosphere. Despite the rigid nursing board regulations, I believe that relentless efforts by the UAPRN will augment FNP roles in Georgia.
