Introduction
Numerous concerns have been raised regarding the medical occupation. Unlike other professions, practitioners in the medical sector are expected to be people of high integrity who are ready to withstand adverse situations. The general understanding is that those working in other professions are paid better than those in medical practice. On several occasions, I have been advised by relatives and friends not to choose the medical profession because of the low pay and numerous challenges associated with it. This notwithstanding, I have chosen to pursue medical studies for the following reasons.
Reasons for Choosing Medical Studies
First and foremost, my passion for the medical profession started quite early in life. During my high school days, I took part in various training that prepared me to be a caregiver. Whenever we had sporting activities at school, I was always on standby and together with other interested students, I would offer first aid and other medical services to injured participants. The more I got involved in offering these services to those who needed them, the more I was persuaded that the medical career was meant for me. However, there are other reasons that have informed my decision to pursue medical studies.
Unlike other professions, the medical field presents numerous opportunities after graduation. It is thus obvious that once I am done with my medical studies, I will be able to choose from a wide range of available options including being employed to work in hospitals, providing public health care services, or working in scientific research institutions. It will also be possible for me to work in the judicial sector where I can advocate for patients’ rights or provide proof for medical errors. In addition, there is the alternative of creating my own path of specialization.
The medical profession will also create an opportunity for me to work with people who are underprivileged. Generally, I am a people person and I believe that pursuing medical studies will allow me to fulfill my desire to interact with and help offer help to scores of people. Obviously, working with people requires patience and strong commitment. There will also a need to be tolerant with special groups of people in the society such as those who are old or disabled. I am convinced that my journey as a medical student will equip me with important skills to handle pressures that are common when dealing with different groups of people in society.
The medical profession also presents people with a unique opportunity to be directly involved in other people’s lives and to make them happy. Without a doubt, there is a greater joy that accompanies the sacrifices made by medical practitioners. Personally, I know that nothing makes me happier than going out of my way to assist a person in need. I am also convinced that the world has a shortage of people who can work in the medical profession. While some countries are more advantaged than others, there is generally a need to ensure that we have enough people who are qualified to work in the medical sector. For this reason, my choice to pursue medical studies is a way of offering a solution to an already existing problem.
Conclusion
Based on the information I have presented here, it is quite clear that my choice to pursue medical studies is informed by a burning desire to help alleviate the problems faced in the world today. Furthermore, pursuing medical studies will equip me with vital skills that are needed to meet the needs of different people in society.
