The responsibilities of a leader within the organization and to the community are almost similar. The purpose of a leader is usually to help people achieve their goals and influence society positively. Organizations exist within a community; therefore, organizational leaders are part of the community leadership. In most cases, organizations within a community establish projects that help the local community to achieve economic, social, and political stability (Lassiter, 2015). The leader of the organization determines how well the company integrates with society, thus determining the influence of the firm on the locals. Leaders should use their position and power within the organization to benefit the community. For instance, a leader can help the community to connect with the right people to enhance the education and health levels of the people (Lassiter, 2015). Organizations collaborate to develop schools and healthcare facilities that help people live comfortable lives.
The involvement of leaders in the community can raise many ethical dilemmas. Favoritism and unequal distribution of resources are some of the ethical issues that arise when leaders get involved with the community. Favoritism interferes with the success of a leader to influence society positively and instead, brings about division (Bailey, 2013). Therefore, leaders must be careful in how they treat people within the society to ensure that their involvement does not lead to division and discontinuity within a society.
