Introduction
Risk management programs play a major role in reducing accidents and injuries in health care organizations. As well, such programs minimize organization’s exposure to lawsuits. Health care organizations should have risk management programs to identify potential risks to staff and patients (Youngberg, 2010). A good example of a risk management program is a monitoring system to gather relevant information. The gathered information can help improve treatment and patient care practices. The provided “YouTube” videos offer ideas that can help increase safety and risk management in health care organizations.
Central Idea in the First Video
The central idea in the first video is keeping children safe in health care organizations (ASHRMVideos, 2012). The video explains how the Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC) provides the best safety measures to its patients and staff. As well, the video stresses that safety is the obligation of every person. This is the case because it takes every person to keep children and other people safe. According to the video, all nurses, physicians, and caregivers in health care organizations should work as a team to keep children and staff safe (Brannan & Taylor, 2006).
Central Idea in the Second Video
The central idea in the second video is that “healthcare reform in the United States is uncertain (ASHRM, 2012)”. The video goes further to explain how the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) is dedicated to risk management in American healthcare organizations. The outstanding idea in the video is ensuring all organizational leaders and nurses enhance patient safety. This is the best approach towards “getting to zero through the power of one (ASHRM, 2012)”. Nurses and physicians can work together to attain patient safety. The video goes further to explain the importance of using procedures and policies to provide proper care to patients. Nurses should be the voice of the patients. Health care providers should involve their patients through proper communication because it is an ethical thing to do (Youngberg, 2010).
Type of Healthcare Workers Targeted by the Videos
The videos target different healthcare workers. The first video targets nurses and physicians in providing safety measures to children in health care organizations. The workers can play a significant role in ensuring healthcare organizations provide safety measures to children and staff. The second video targets nurses and organizational leaders. Nurses and caregivers should be the voices of the patients. Nurses should embrace proper communication strategy to change the nature of health care. Through observations, courage, and passion for the safety of the patients, it can be possible for caregivers, nurse leaders, and physicians to promote the quality of health care and safety (Youngberg, 2010).
How the Videos Increase Safety and Risk Management Efforts
Based on our readings, it is evident that these two videos can significantly help increase safety and risk management efforts in different health care organizations. In the first video, every person is responsible for the welfare and safety of patients and children. With proper precautions, surveillance, and monitoring, nurses and caregivers can improve the quality of care and reduce risks in health care organizations. The second video presents similar ideas whereby nurses and leaders should be the voice of their patients (ASHRM, 2012). With proper communication and the ability to identify the existing gaps, nurses can significantly increase safety and risk management (Brannan & Taylor, 2006). It is necessary to consider these ideas to ensure patients get proper care and support.
Helping a Risk Management Program
I believe the videos can help a risk management program. Risks in a health care organization can take different shapes. That being the case, nurses, physicians, and organizational leaders can use the ideas to increase risk management and safety efforts. For instance, nurses can monitor the progress and needs of patients promptly. This will help mitigate the possible risks in the organizations. As well, a monitoring system in an organization can help nurses and other personnel monitor and identify potential risks to staff and patients. The videos embrace the idea of a team effort. This is a critical approach in risk management because it will ensure the staff work together to improve the quality of services and care provided to patients (Effective Health Care Risk Management Programs, 2004). The approach will minimize the number of accidents or injuries that tend to become potential lawsuits. These videos can help develop the best risk management program in a health care organization.

The second video is helpful because it presents the best ideas to improve health care safety. The video starts by explaining why every person, including leaders and nurses, has a role to play towards a perfect safety and risk management program. According to the video, nurses, leaders, and physicians should always communicate with their patients and address their needs (Brannan & Taylor, 2006). The video explains the need to have a proper monitoring system to identify possible risks to staff and patients. Nurses and healthcare givers can use the ideas to continue providing quality health care and minimize most of the risks in health care organizations today.
