Introduction
Research has shown that, for any music to please the ears, it requires the composer to combine various elements in a certain order. According to (Turek, 1996 P35), “Effective skills of the player combined with efficient music instrument provide a significant role in determining the quality of music because they shape the form, color and texture of the music all of which distinguishes a song from another”. Studies have revealed that these three components give the music its rhythm if they are well balanced through the right skills.
Regarding music instruments, their categorization depends on the sound they produce and therefore there are string instruments, percussion and wood instrument which have undergone a continuous modification from ancient times to have the modern instrument. Historical facts have shown that most of the musical instruments were made of wood, bones as well as horns but they have undergone modification in modern times. Today brass and silver have also been used to make instruments but they still serve the same purpose as the ancient’s instruments, in giving the music its harmony, melodious sound and rhythm in various occasions such as churches and cultural dances. In the medieval period, there were physical notations that enhanced communication and this translated to the modern times where advanced technology is being used such as electric guitars, synthesizers as well as computers. It is now possible to manipulate sounds thus increasing the quality of music from how it used to be in ancient times. (Godoy, 2001)
Music Project Report
Research has shown that, although music has gone through a series of transitions, there have been basic elements that have constituted its material and these include rhythm which determines the quality of music, as well as control of the motion to match the purpose of the music. Other elements include notational elements such as beats, ties, legato and flags. Studies in music have shown that there is a great relationship between music and cultural-socio aspects of various communities as every music relates to a particular cultural event, which could be religious or secular.
Rock “N roll music was very popular in 1950-1960s and research has found that it resulted from various styles of music from different communities. It was a combination of African-American styles that comprised lyrical melodies of European immigrants and western music. (Colwell, 1969)
The music has begun in small clubs where it became popular as a result of being played on the radio stations. Its popularity was enhanced further when the American bandstand was introduced and teenagers could watch bands of their choice on television. However, research has shown that the music was not appreciated by everybody especially parents who did not like its dancing style, naughty lyrics, loudness as well as fast beats that accompanied the music. The music began in blue tunes and gospel music along with jazz-influenced music, all of which were popular after the II World War. It was characterized by the use of electric guitars that were amplified, harmonicas and drummers with a lot of emphasis on after beats.
One of the major contributors in the revolution of music was Jimi Hendrix who was born on 27th Nov 1942 in Seattle in the United States of America and died on 18th Sept 1970 in London at the age of 27 after having recorded four albums. He revolutionized the playing of the guitar through popular music and his teaching to the world to “kiss the sky”. (Besson, 2001)
How Woodstock’s 1969 music festival changed the musical world
Woodstock music that took place in 1969 was attended by about 450,000 people in Sullivan country and lasted for four days. It made the site a countercultural mini-station thus opening the minds of many people as well as making drug use and lovemaking to be temporally legal and free. The festivity began on Friday at 5:07 PM and proceeded to Monday mid-morning creating the worst traffic jams to be witnessed in New York City. The local and state laws were later to see that, a similar incidence did not happen again in the future.
(Besson, 2001) argued that, this festival changed the world by influencing power and a peaceful way of thinking through music; impacting a spirit of togetherness. It changed the traditional aspect of life where music became more recognized and was perceived to be beyond an accomplishment in an individual’s life, but more of a tool of expression thereby becoming a weapon for self-recognition. It provoked evolution in music where modern music is characterized by rock sounds. It also gave music a new force of freedom and creativity expanding room for expression an aspect that is valued by many artists in the modern music world.
Conclusion
People still honor the occasion by showing up as families for the reunion of Woodstock in an effort to reminiscence on the festival, even if they had not attended the occasion. Regarding Jimi’s Woodstock performance of his song on YouTube and his performance and his skill of using instruments, although he was born in America, his exceptional skills were high and this led to his legendary performance skills at Woodstock that left high inspiration to many people about “rock ‘N roll’ from several parts of the world.
