I gained much knowledge in the humanities and sciences due to my work this semester. Writing in the humanities is ultimately intended to explain or comprehend human experience and ideals. Philosophy, religion, art, music, literature, history, and language are all humanities. These topics cover a wide range of issues that help us learn about and comprehend how individuals communicate thoughts, feelings, and other aspects of being a person. The course made it abundantly clear that the humanities lie at the heart of any human desire to seek, uncover, and disseminate knowledge. The letter effectively conveys this scientific direction and enables students to discuss their studied subjects.

There are so many guidelines for structuring assignments that the start of an essay may occasionally appear daunting. It was crucial to become familiar with the MLA style, frequently used in the humanities. The MLA format aids authors in producing well-structured articles and establishing their reputations. Modern Language Association is referred to by the abbreviation MLA. The study of languages and literature is the focus of this association in the United States. The first MLA style sheet was produced in 1951 by the organization’s scholars, setting clear standards for article layout and reference citation. The group issued a comprehensive MLA guidebook with standards for style sheets in 1977. The organization is now using the MLA style’s ninth version.

Like every formatting manual, MLA has advantages and disadvantages. However, MLA is the most suitable for the humanities, as has been evident through studying and writing this semester. This format’s ability to give readers the actual page numbers of the sources used in the text is one of its key benefits. According to MLA style, citations in the text are not given context by year of publication. Since this structure prevents plagiarism, the authors are kept honest. The MLA has several regulations, too, which might make it challenging to keep track of them all. Additionally, this structure offers organization and consistency. Textual citations have the drawback of diverting readers, especially in short articles.

The APA style is appropriate for works in the social and natural sciences. The American Psychological Association is referred to as APA. This organization has created a standard format for listing and citing references. For works in the social and behavioral sciences, like sociology or psychology, the APA style is frequently employed. Over this semester, I have discovered that, even if a student has a choice in formatting style, it is crucial to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of that style. This guarantees that authors do not plagiarize, just like with MLA. However, novice users may need help with this. It is simple to read and alter text with a 12-point double-spaced typeface. In contrast to footnotes and endnotes, an alphabetical list of references might be difficult to peruse. Years of in-text citations help the APA contextualize concerns, yet like the MLA, these citations may be annoying to readers.

Undergraduate courses sometimes skip scientific writing, a crucial phase in the scientific process, to maximize the amount of time allotted to scientific topics. However, success in science depends on the ability to communicate study findings effectively. Graduate students are pushed to write more frequently and earlier, and scientists are commonly evaluated on their publication history and citation counts. As a result, it was crucial to have a solid basis for writing scientific articles early in one’s academic career. You can divide the process of writing a research paper into manageable steps to increase the emphasis on effective writing in the classroom. The fact that there were concrete examples that students could use as a guide while writing a scientific paper or lab report was helpful.
