Community Project

Low-income communities may struggle with using conventional supermarket chains, as the prices do not necessarily accommodate them. One of the solutions to the problem is a food truck that would sell affordable goods and educate the population. However, finding or buying one presents a set of issues that have to be considered before attempting the initiative. The following paper will highlight the steps of the process and describe each of them.

Finding the Funds for a Food Truck or a Trailer

The first issue to consider is how to procure a truck. The probability of finding one in a junkyard or similar places is low, and it would still need repairing. Another solution is to buy a used or a new truck, but both options are not cheap. Therefore, the project would need funding regardless of the means. Those who are in charge of the project and the community itself are unlikely to fund a truck themselves, so other ways should be reviewed.

Securing Funding through the CARES Act

The CARES Act theoretically provides several opportunities to fund the project. It can be done through the article directed at low-income households, but it makes only those needs that are connected to COVID-19 eligible. It would be more feasible to appeal to the college students part of the document that allows one to receive a grant under the same conditions as usually required. However, this source of funding is probably less reliable than others.

Setting Up a Gofundme Page

One of the most efficient ways to fund a project these days is using such websites as Gofundme. It provides a platform for crowdfunding and suggests how to organize one’s page. The latter is essential, as a carefully chosen picture and an inspiring description can make a difference. It would probably be beneficial to choose a truck for purchasing and use its picture, describe the situation as critical, and use social media to promote the page. If it reaches more than the original goal, the rest of the sum can be given to the community.

Creating a Vision and Mission Statement

To appeal to fundraisers, a clear vision and mission statement is necessary. The project’s vision is a well-fed and healthy community that will not have to struggle to survive. The mission is to organize a truck with cheap food and additional educational functions using various sources of funding, including the CARES Act and online platforms. The project’s outcome will depend on how successfully the funds will be secured and how many additional goods can be purchased.

Other Donors

In addition to the Cares Act and crowdfunding, or instead of them in case of failure, the project could use other sources of funds. It is possible to appeal to a food company or a vehicle, for which the project will present an opportunity to promote itself. Nonprofit organizations can also assist, as most of them target low-income families. While it is likely for the people involved in the project to participate in teaching the community and selling food, a wiser option would be to find long-term volunteers for such purposes. It is important to ensure both immediate success after acquiring the truck and establishing it and its further activity for as much time as needed to achieve the original vision.
