Introduction
The situation that Roland Williams happened to face is widespread among militaries. When people have some psychological problems and do not discuss them with professional doctors that might help them to cope with their stresses, they are likely to start drinking. Unfortunately, some individuals think that alcohol cannot have an adverse impact on their lives because they do not consume big doses of it. However, alcoholism always starts if a person does not want to admit that drinking is the wrong decision.
Discussion
The story tells that Ronald Williams’ father also has some problems with alcohol. Indeed, there was a possibility that this trait was inherited by the character from his father. On the other hand, he could have noticed that his parent ruined his relationship with the family. Ronald should have considered that the same outcomes might influence his life as well (Wormer & Davis, 2014). However, the man wants to stop drinking, which is a wise decision. Today, he is looking for another job that he can do after being retired. Nevertheless, he did not give up drinking as he came into the employment center with a distinctive smell of alcohol.
Ronald Williams’ Needs
The patient’s needs will be discussed in the following paragraph. Ronald Williams wants to save his relationship with his son who stayed with his mother after the couple divorced. Moreover, the character understands and realizes that he needs to receive some medical treatment to overcome his alcohol addiction (Turner, 2017). Usually, men regret that they consume much alcohol when their families start to ignore them. Also, the man wants to save his relationships with the girlfriend who told Ronald that she might leave him if he does not quit drinking in the nearest future.
Challenges and Strengths Identified in the Case
The main challenge for Ronald Williams is to overcome his alcohol addiction because he does not want to quit drinking. On the other hand, he has to give up consuming alcohol. Otherwise, all his family members and other close people might not want to communicate with this man. Therefore, he is obliged to get over himself to cope with the problem. Moreover, Ronald has a best friend that might help him in this situation (Wormer & Davis, 2014). However, the man has good leadership qualities that he developed due to his occupation. Ronald has a good relationship with his old mother who also might support him in fighting alcohol addiction.
Social Worker’s Contribution to Ronald’s Problem
As a social worker, I understand that Ronald Williams needs to express his thoughts and concerns about the emerged issue. However, I am obliged to help him with finding a job, but the man does not quit drinking (Turner, 2017). Therefore, it would be proper to make the client undergo psychological treatment. After the end of the course, he will be guaranteed to receive a decent and well-paid job. Such an approach is necessary in this case because the man has to understand that his values overweigh the alcohol addiction.
Conclusion
Ronald Williams needs to receive psychological assistance because he cannot overcome alcohol addiction. Although he understands that he ruins his relationships with people who surround him, it is still a challenge for him to get over himself. As a social worker, I must provide the person with a worthy job that he will try to save and might give up drinking. Moreover, I have to encourage him to undergo psychological treatment as a professional’s assistance might make him reconsider his values.
