I am impressed by the Sociocultural Theory which describes the influence of environment including family, friends, culture, and society on children’s development. Even though every child is born with certain character traits, their character and mindset can change depending on the environment they live in.
Therefore, the parents’ basic responsibility is to provide their children with comfortable living conditions and proper social surrounding, which will positively affect their kids’ development as individuals. To my mind, in the process of studying, teachers should also consider schoolchildren’s temperament and character traits. For instance, some kids are hardworking and curios, while others may be shy and lonely.
Moreover, if people around show an example of good behavior it will lead children to successful development and learning. On the contrary, the uncomfortable and dangerous surrounding will harm kids’ development and will affect the potential occurrence of childhood trauma. Many things that children are interested in, like movies and series that they watch, also have a large influence on their development.
Today, people live in a society where they learn through interaction and can develop certain character traits and habits depending on their culture, background, etc. Therefore, the Sociocultural Theory presented by Lev Vygotsky can be applicable to all human beings.
