Introduction
Technology and art have coexisted in every age. Even when the science of technical innovation was imperfect, it had a great impact on traditional art forms such as painting. Yet, it is the same impetus of innovation that has shaped film and photography as powerful mediums for human empowerment and expression. Western culture is now being reshaped by a comparatively young medium like film which itself has been overtaken by more sophisticated technological invention. The article explores the constantly evolving pace of technical change, which shapes a medium like film and where possibly it could go. A thing about change is that change is constant. It is more relevant in the world of popular culture and media. The latest technological innovation is gobbled up by the next great idea and special effects in movies are one such element.
Background
Under such parameters the special effects in movies are growing its influence rapidly and the audience like it with ever developing technologies. This is possible only because of the fact that in technology’s new dispensation, everything is only data, capable of being manipulated and compressed into digital forms for better viewing or better sound and even better visual extravaganza. One such example is the movie ‘300’. Zack Snyder directed movie ‘300’ (2007) is a historical saga and the political policy of the First Empires and Common Cultures in Afro-Eurasia during the 350 BCE. It was hugely popular and it presented a breathtaking amount of special effects throughout the movie.
Summary
This was a classic case of clash relating to political and cultural differences between King Leonidas against the Persian ‘God-King’ Xerxes. The given issue of the Greek and Persian conflict is the clash of two successful political and cultural civilizations that operated in two different nations at the same period of history. The battle between King Leonidas against the Persian ‘God-King’ Xerxes is a well known historical event and it is marked by great bravery and sacrifice of the Spartans while fighting a formidable foe who supersede them by superiority in numbers. The Spartans fought heard up to their last man and with the death of King Leonidas the Persians won the battle but lost the war as the sacrifice exhaled the morals of the rest of the Greeks.
Special effects in the movie ‘300’
Though it was a straightforward and well known story the director infused huge amount of stylization through special effects. The huge wolf in the mountains during training sessions of the Spartan kids, the appearance of ‘God-King’ Xerxes or the Delphi oracles are all results of exorbitant special effects. All these resulted in the success of the movie making it possible to believe that audience love special effects even if it is only a superficial and additional aspect of the movie. If ‘300’ is taken as an example, it is certain that the main object of the movie is the special effects and the historical events were only back seated.
Discussion
Can art survive such manipulation and enable the inspired creativity, which gave us such enduring art? The key to the whole issue is creativity, the one balancing link in this splendid, breakneck pace of change. Because film and filmmaking is the most pervasive and enduring face of this technological golden age forward, we will take a look at the technologies, which have influenced it, and the future. The essence of film is storytelling partly because it is a visual medium. However, this aspect is in danger of being overwhelmed by technology to the extent storytelling gives way to visual effects. It does not reproduce a story, as it should. What drives a, medium like film is creativity, which can unleash its potential. (Holden, 224) The latest technologies enable films to be made by almost everyone even if the art of film making takes a back seat in the movie ‘300’. In a way, the director of the movie was actually the visual effect specialist and not Zack Snyder.
Conclusion
Audiences will ultimately have to be responsible in future, for the sort of moviemaking they foster. Considering the increase in people and mass viewers, films have surprisingly, shown great restraint and quality. The new world filmmaker will find hi sown means of production and distribution as appropriate, The smell filmmaker today takes business approach to his work, consider his audiences well before strategizing on his course of action There will be no reactions, only a calculated response.Filmmakers will have to seek better routes to their audiences as they go along and the technology will always be there at their aid. Creative ways of looking at the world are also a necessity as filmmakers go about their careers. They will have to balance concerns of commerce with a feel for their art. With the growth and extension of the printing press, many took to writing. Similarly, many aspiring filmmakers have risen to the occasion. So it is logical to believe that special effects developers would be the film makers of tomorrow and the audience would love it the same way as today.
