Spiritual leadership prioritizes the fundamental needs of the organization, which helps the organization create vision and value among its employees. This fosters and empowers team members, which fosters development, commitment, and productivity in the organization (Kaya, 2015). Spiritual leadership provides a platform that acts as guidance, which helps employees to find the meaning of life and develop goals or strategies that help the organization achieve its objectives. Workplace spirituality lays a foundation through which organizational values and culture are developed to promote and facilitate employees’ connection, stimulating joy, motivation, and enthusiasm in work. This is done by creating and preparing a suitable environment, developed through practices such as care and a humanistic approach that infuses productivity, flexibility, and creativity in the workplace. Spiritual leadership helps employees develop organizational spirituality that guides them to behave ethically, which makes them be intertwined in more chores without worry, creating a balance between within and outside the organization (Kaya, 2015). In an organization where spirituality is disregarded, employees are less concerned with work, performance is poor, and employees are less connected in the organization.
Modern operations in organizations are characterized by spiritual leadership that lays a framework for developing organizational work, ensuring sustainability and transformation. Spiritual leadership brings changes, which facilitate the achievement of organizational goals since service delivery requires good governance and management. Service delivery requires good management of human resources, especially in healthcare management (Pio et al., 2020). This reduced malpractices such as lack of support, mismanagement, and work overloads.
Challenges experienced in healthcare systems are related to poor leadership, affecting the quality of life. To reduce issues related to poor leadership, organizations are adopting spiritual leadership to improve organizational performance. Spiritual leadership is characterized by honesty, humility, and integrity. These virtues promote work ethics and respect among employees, influencing organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) (Pio et al., 2020).
