General Objective Data Criteria for the Community-at-Large
Demographics
Total population of the USA is 331,893,745, Texas – 29,527,941, Austin – 964,177 people, and 114,032 – East Austin (East Austin demographics, n.d.; QuickFacts, 2021). Gender distribution is almost the same – 51% of males and 49% of females (East Austin demographics, n.d.). Age distribution is the same: persons under 65 years – 21%, under 18 years – 23%, and under five years – 5.6% (QuickFacts, 2021). No information about family composition within the chosen community is available, but it is said that about 91% of all families live in the same house (QuickFacts, 2021). In East Austin, about 70% are households without children, and 30% are with children (East Austin demographics, n.d).
Racial/Ethnic Characteristics
In the USA, Whites prevail (75%) over Blacks (13.6) and Indians (1.3%) (QuickFacts, 2021). In the community, Austen, and the state, similar characteristics are observed: 87% are Whites, and 9.4% are Blacks (QuickFacts, 2021).
Economy
Families below poverty levels compose about 11% of East Austin, which is similar to the city, state, and national levels (QuickFacts, 2021). Median incomes are about $75,752 in Austin and $64,994 in the USA, while the residents of East Austin earn about $72,764 (East Austin demographics, n.d., QuickFacts, 2021). High employment ratings are noticed in East Austen: about 7,000 entrepreneurs, 41,000 private employees, and 10,000 governmental workers (East Austin demographics, n.d). Total employment was 134,163,349 in the USA and 11,210,906 in Texas in 2020 (QuickFacts, 2021).
Education
About 25,447 individuals hold high school degrees, and 13,135 individuals are with graduate degrees (East Austin demographics, n.d.). In the USA and Texas, about 88.5% of the total population are with high school degrees, and about 30% are with higher education degrees (QuickFacts, 2021).
Morbidity and Mortality/Risk Problems
Obesity is a common morbidity and mortality risk problem in the United States: more than 42% are obese, and more than 30% are overweight (Overweight & obesity statistics, 2021). In Texas, the prevalence of obese people is 36% (Adult obesity prevalence maps, 2022). Although the Austin community strives for healthy lifestyles, 64% of the population are obese (Percentage of adults, 2022). Obesity leads to diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.
Alcoholism is not a serious problem among East Austen residents, but it is threatening at national (about 140,000,000 individuals) and state (10,600,000 individuals) levels (Stein, 2022). Austen and its communities are among the lowest percentage of non-drinkers, which is 9% (Mapping the volume of non-drinkers, 2019). Regardless of gender and age characteristics, alcohol provokes hypertension, liver disease, and heart problems.
Other data as needed (air, water quality, crimes rates)
Alcohol-impaired driving is a crime affecting the USA, Texas, and Austin, in particular. Compared to 14% of total American crashes with lethal outcomes, Texas accounts for 25% (Texas wrong-way driving, 2021). Although Austin communities prefer safe driving, about half of car accidents happen due to alcohol consumption in the morning.
Analysis of Data
Conclusions Based on Subjective and Objective Review of Findings
Invalid Impressions from Subjective Observations
The impression about the increased number of restaurants provoked invalid and biased conclusions about Austin residents and alcohol dependence.
Valid Impressions from Objective Data
Addressing statistics, East Austin citizens avoid serious complications related to obesity and alcoholism, but abusive behaviors cannot be ignored (Mapping the volume of non-drinkers, 2019; Stein, 2022).
Cause-And-Effect Relationships Discovered
The more people drink or eat unhealthy food, the more chances of being diagnosed with heart disease, diabetes, or cancer are observed. Austin residents should improve their lifestyles and eating habits and decrease alcohol consumption.
