Students should keep track of the time they have to meet their responsibilities. The first strategy in being a good time manager is ensuring that everything is planned ahead of time. Students should develop a habit to always map their time with a plan highlighting what they should be doing at a specific time every day. This ensures that students cover all their responsibilities with minimal lateness.
The second strategy involves prioritizing tasks. This strategy works in time management because it allows students to start working on activities with the shortest deadlines first. It also allows students to keep track of their daily responsibilities. The third time management strategy involves being flexible. This involves sacrificing leisure time to handle more important responsibilities. For instance, one could miss a movie to finish his or her homework (Nellen, 2000).
Assignment completion and returning
Class attendance, assignment completion, and timely returning of assignments should be the top priorities for students. Being effective in these priorities is easy when using the timetable scheduling strategy. This involves highlighting the due dates for assignments, and starting with the most pressing assignments with reference to time. The second strategy involves placing the assignments at a time based plan whereby the student makes it his or her sole purpose to cover specific parts of the assignment within personally set deadlines. This method allows students to space out their assignment handling time. The third strategy involves keeping reminders to keep students focused on their assignments and their deadlines. Keeping an alarm to remind the students about the return dates and time is essential (Nellen, 2000).
Staying organized
Keeping an appointment calendar is one of the most effective strategies into staying organized. Students should carry a list of the things they are supposed to do everywhere they go to ensure they do not forget their responsibilities. Keeping an organized study area is also important because many students keep misplacing their books and stationary, which leads to time wastage. The organization of a working area prepares the mind to deliver organized work (Nellen, 2000). It is also important for students to ensure they allocate enough time to cover every responsibility, and they should be strict with their time. Sacrificed time should always be from the low priority responsibilities. It is common for students to forget their responsibilities; thus, keeping reminders in the form of alarms and ‘to do’ lists are important for study work organization purposes.
Recording grades
The core value for students should be maintaining high grades throughout their study years to guarantee the attainment of their dreams. Recording grades, is important, because it helps students keep track of their performance. This translates into their ability to keep focused on maintaining high performance in some subjects. It also helps in the allocation of study time by highlighting the subjects that need more time. One of the most effective ways of keeping track with grades is recording the performance in every assignment. This indicates the areas that need to be covered to raise a student’s grade to the desired level.
The second strategy involves keeping focus on the grades desired by setting reasonable targets for students’ grades. This way, the student is inclined to keeping track of his or her grades. The third strategy involves creating competition groups with fellow students who compete for the highest grades. This motivates students to keep track of their performance in different subjects (Going to college, 2009).
