Many scientists believe that, Republic administration under President Bush caused more harm than good in all fields of science. For example, during Bush administration, his officials tampered with climatic reports. Moreover, the department of Fish and Wildlife allocated minimum funds unable to carry scientific research and to sum it up; President Bush stopped stem cell research to please political egos.
Republicans choose to disregard scientific innovations and instead opt for political theories without facts. It seems that, Republicans have negative issues when it comes to scientific and innovation. For example, past Republican administrations saw a period of anti-intellectualism in Barry Goldwater administration, Ronald Reagan’s distance from creationism and skepticism of science from Newt Gingrich.
Republicans abuse science at the expense of gaining politically. Interestingly, political parties run governments through elected leaders. Nevertheless, it is the responsibility of a government to fund its agencies to carry out scientific research. However, on the contrary, Republican administration stopped stem cell research, edited global warming policy, and cut science funding leading to stagnation of innovations in science.
Conservatives both religious and political, forced hard debates over science. Religious conservatives hate science and accuse it of immorality and atheism. On other hand, journalists contributed to science war by making equal media coverage between science, politics and religion. Republicans utilized this opportunity in the media industry to stage war on science. Largely, Republicans administrations succeeded in the war. This is because; a large portion of science funding is done by the government.
This summary makes us to understand one thing. That politics and science do not match, is a fact. Americans have witnessed on many occasions Republicans dismiss policies meant to bring innovations in science. For example, global warming policies help countries to manage their environments for future generation. Contrary to believe of many, President Bush allowed edition of global warming policy. This is totally unacceptable Republican policies are not global policies.
Though science has its own risks like competition from other nations thus posing dangers to evolution, it supports life through environmental conservation and biological research. Republicans should believe in facts rather than theoretical facts in formulating science policies. Republicans err each time a policy on science arises. They opt to appease constituents rather than support life through science.
The issue of Republicans giving science low funding, is only a setback to industrial revolution. For example, Republicans halting stem cell research meant that, Republicans do not value health care industry. They seem to forget that, it is indeed science that made America to be a great nation. The antagonism between science and religion on one side and on the other Republican science bigotry will see death of scientific innovations.
At times, contrasting views about science fire up due to equal coverage by the media. Religious and scientific views are norms that need strong attention rather than accusations.
Journalists should understand statistics and science so that they can avoid false detachments in media galleries. The issue of republicans removing an Office of Technology and Assessment responsible for science dissemination was a calculated move to deny Americans science facts-a portrait of backwardness. Americans have right to information, Republicans like it or not.
In conclusion, Republicans should direct their views on the importance of science rather than politicization. Science is about facts and not a theory. A certain science aspect can awaken people and force their government to address science issues like global warming for the benefit of future generations. Overall, this depends on the response from people that will force both Republicans and Democrats to stop accusations and engage science into work.
