That is why, the question of the efficiency and security of storages used by different organizations is rather topical nowadays. Under these conditions, vSphere storage obtains great popularity. It is a kind of storage which allows its users to manage files within one working machine and transfer them between different arrays of information from one to another without any pauses or breaks in the work. It is very efficient practice which helps to reduce time which is needed for data processing and increase efficiency of the whole process in this way.
However, to achieve its efficient functioning some options should be taken into account while planning vSphere storage. Additionally, choice between 2 or 3 meber VSA cluster should be made as it will be impossible to add extra member in the process of its usage (Ferguson, 2012). The next step is connected with the determination of capacity of VSA cluster. The thing is, that the amount of information should be taken into account and, resting on this fact, decision should be made. Finally, the number of virtual machines which are going to use this cluster should also be considered. Only under these conditions, vSphere storage can provide efficient management of information.
Configuring vSphere storage
However, it is obvious, that all steps which are mentioned above, are just the first stage of the activity connected with the usage of vShpere storage in the work of any organization or company. With this in mind, vSphere should be configured in order to function efficiently and fast. That is why, several main points connected with the configuration of vSphere storage could also be outlined. First of all, it is possible to say that the main requirement for VSA cluster is the presence of ESXi 5.0 as only it can promote efficient functioning of the whole system and, moreover, none of the ESXi hosts must function in another cluster (Ferguson, 2012). It is very important as the whole work could collapse and system will not function. Additionally, there are strict demands for the network as it has to have “1 dedicated Gigabit Ethernet switch that supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN trunking” (VMware, n.d., p.23) for its efficient functioning. Nevertheless, if all these needs are fulfilled, it is possible to create vSphere storage which can be easily used in the work. Its managing is simple, as s virtual switch, which will appear, can allow a person to use the system efficiently.
With this in mind, having analyzed the data connected with vSphere storage, it is possible to make a certain conclusion. It is obvious, that it can provide fast and efficient managing of data which can also be secure. However, some requirements should be fulfilled. First of all, they are connected with the work of ESXi hosts and machine in general.
