The primary aim of this research is analyzed the anti-globalization movements and their impacts on the international firms and international business. This paper conducts scholars’ research to evaluate both sides of the globalization argument.
This research paper includes the views of different scientists and authors related to the topic of the anti-globalization movement and their impacts on the business environment. This research study analyzes and discusses the issues or problems related faced by the international companies due to the related to the anti-globalization movement.
In the current time, globalization is considered one of the primary factors that have an impact on the financial, administrative, and physical system. According to Cameron & Nickerson (2009), globalization effects on the economy, administrative, and geographical system of the nations in an efficient manner.
There are rapid changes in the economies of the states due to globalization. In addition to this, it should also be noted down that, different kinds of issues are also developed or created by the anti-globalization to the countries (Cameron & Nickerson, 2009). The following sections will analyze each debate with a formulated anti-globalization position and define wither if the debate affects a multi-national organization.
Meaning: Process vs. Project
It is necessary to mention that many scientists support globalization because they think that it would help to increase the access to modern technologies, and delivery speed is especially important in this case. Furthermore, it is imperative to understand that there is an enormous potential that is not yet fully utilized because many individuals all over the globe could become interested in particular devices or other products.
On the other hand, many think that it would be quite problematic because it would increase the ability of companies to influence populations with such techniques as marketing. Economic liberalization may also be regarded as an issue in some cases because government regulations are critical at the moment. It is paramount to have an understanding of numerous risks that are associated with this approach. For instance, financial sector could become unstable, and it would lead to many other complications.
Interpretation: New Era vs. Nothing New
One of the biggest benefits of globalization is that it is associated with dramatic changes, and many think that global integration may cause the creation of the new stage in the development of the global economy. Another perspective is also quite interesting and needs to be discussed.
Supporters of anti-globalization movement suggest that it may be viewed as a particular form of capitalism. This stance may hurt many businesses because it would limit possible opportunities for development and expansion. It is imperative to mention that this position could help multinational corporations because they are already incredibly successful, and many new competitors could be introduced.
Evaluation: Good vs. Bad
One of the most important factors that should not be disregarded is that globalization is frequently criticized and is often a topic of controversies. However, the fact that numerous supporters are present should not be overlooked, and it indicates that an enormous percentage of the population believes that it would help to address some of the problems that cannot be currently resolved.
The issue that should be taken into account is that it is evident that an enormous percentage of the population does not support globalization, and it may lead to many conflicts and disagreements (Dwyer, 2013).
It needs to be mentioned that this stance could hurt many businesses because they have invested enormous amounts of resources into research, and their strategies could be based on globalization. The biggest benefit of this position is that it is expected that global economy would be much more stable because it has formed over the years, and globalization could lead to numerous processes and issues that are hard to address.
Explanation: “Hard” vs. “Soft”
It is suggested by individuals that are against globalization that this process is caused by multinational enterprises that are capable of taking advantage of the fact that some of the new technologies may be incredibly disruptive, and their influence all over the world is enormous.
It is paramount to note that this perspective is quite interesting because such companies may be able to expand in the future. On the other hand, every single organization should keep track of latest trends in the industry to stay ahead of competitors. For example, one of the recent studies suggests that globalization would be beneficial for online sales (Alcántara-Pilar, del Barrio-García, & Porcu, 2013).
This aspect should not be overlooked because it is necessary to have an understanding of decision-making process of customers to promote particular products. The issue that should not be overlooked is that many companies may be able to abuse globalization because they have invested in research of new technologies, and others would not be capable of competing, and it could hurt the economy.
Political: End vs. Revival of Nation-State
The core issue that is frequently discussed is that globalization may have an impact on current states. It is understandable why many think that it would be problematic. The problem that needs to be discussed is that governments provide domestic companies with a broad range of benefits, and it is extremely likely that they would not be able to operate efficiently without protection and particular policies. On the other hand, nation states would be able to manage economic competition much better, but such aspects are hard to predict in most cases.
The problem is that increased authority may lead to numerous complications, and it can be said that current approach has proven to be efficient. It would not be an easy task to get used to such dramatic changes, and it could potentially lead to global crises. Overall, it can be noted that globalization may hurt multinational organizations because they make significant percentages of profits from selling licenses, and it may not be possible if such dramatic changes take place.
Cultural: Sameness vs. Difference
Individuals that support this position suggest that globalization would cause cultural homogeneity. The problem is that cultural diversity should always be viewed as something that is good for business because there are always new opportunities that are not yet explored (Globalization debates, n.d.).
On the other hand, some scientists think that it could potentially lead to such processes like the creation of new combinations of cultures, and many would prefer to defend their traditions. However, it is necessary to mention that numerous internal factors should be taken into account, and it is not an easy task to make correct predictions.
Another aspect that is truly fascinating is that globalization may help to reduce global poverty, and the ability of many individuals to make purchases is going to increase significantly (Deveaux, 2015). Furthermore, it would have an enormous impact on the economy of the world. It is imperative to understand that this approach may be regarded as beneficial for multinational organizations in the long-term because it would help to reduce expenses on advertisement and other activities.
Also, there would be no need to research of cultural aspects, and it may not be necessary to make alterations to the product based on the region. However, the most significant issue that should not be overlooked is that it would lead to enormous levels of competitiveness because the demand for particular products is going to increase most of the time (see Table 1).
