Nonverbal communication plays a highly important role in people’s lives. There is a variety of elements constituting this type of interaction: gestures, mimics, posture, eye contact, and others. If one learns to encode the decoded features of nonverbal clues, he or she is more likely to understand the true intentions of the people around and can adapt to the environment better. The present paper focuses on the significance of body language based on three video speech presentations.

One of the most useful outcomes of understanding body language is the possibility to discern between lies and the truth. In her speech, Meyer (2011) explains the variety of clues with the help of which people can see whether their interlocutors are sincere or deceitful. The scholar emphasizes that lying is a cooperative act, and if one is being cheated, it is most probably because this individual has allowed it (Meyer, 2011). Thus, it is crucial to learn the cues that help to see whether someone is or is not honest and look out for those features in those with whom one communicates.

Another valuable element of nonverbal communication is the way a person smiles. As Gutman (2011) mentions, smiling has the hidden power that can make people healthier and more successful. Also, by analyzing the smiles of others, it is possible to understand the level of honesty and professionalism they have. Research indicates that smiling can stimulate people’s brain reward mechanisms better than chocolate (Gutman, 2011). Thus, smiling at others is quite a positive habit, and learning to analyze the smiles of others is a valuable skill that may help to understand people’s intentions.

Nonverbal signs constitute a large part of people’s judgments about others. Cuddy (2012) remarks that one’s body language can shape who one is. Moreover, there have been studies aimed to identify whether nonverbal demeanor can govern people’s opinions about themselves. As a result of such research, it has been determined that one’s body can alter the mind, which, in turn, can change the behavior (Cuddy, 2012). Therefore, it is significant to analyze one’s choices of posture and try to select high-power poses if one wants to feel determined and self-confident.

All of the speakers put emphasis on the importance of body language and nonverbal communication. Meyer (2011) and Gutman (2011) note that the interlocutors’ facial expressions can help understand their degree of sincerity. Cuddy (2012) and Gutman (2011) discuss the likelihood of smiling and selecting high-power poses to increase one’s levels of success and happiness. Lecturers mention that learning the details of nonverbal communication not only helps to analyze the intentions and moods of others but can also assist in self-analysis. In all three speeches, the emphasis is put on sincerity and confidence as vital components of the interaction that can be identified with the help of discerning the mimics and gestures of others.

The three videos give insight into unique approaches to evaluate people’s honesty or deceitfulness. Apart from that, speakers explain how gestures and posture can promote confidence and help individuals feel better in socially challenging situations. It can be concluded that nonverbal communication plays a crucial part in any person’s life. By using a variety of clues, people can improve their level of interaction and make better decisions regarding their partners. Moreover, it is possible to become more independent and happier in the case of learning how to govern one’s body language.
