Introduction
The convenience of the emergency care system is a big part of the reason patients go to the emergency room. Compared to a regular primary care physician, an appointment in the emergency department will be faster and the patient will receive care sooner. Additionally, patients do not wait for an appointment and know that their problem will be addressed as soon as possible (Idil et al., 2018).
Preventing Urgent Cases
The consequence of this patient behavior is an increased waste of hospital resources: staffing levels must be increased in positions where urgent care is not needed. As a result, many people with emergency conditions (e.g., hypertension, ketoacidosis, heart attack, or ischemia) do not receive care in time, and the effectiveness of treatment is reduced. Preventing these situations requires strengthening the internal organization of patient appointments, making them streamlined and more accessible (Matifary et al., 2021). Electronic medical records and special hours for those with chronic diseases or children would reduce the burden on the emergency department.
Emergency care and strong emergency departments are the backbones of U.S. health care because the number of these cases is difficult to control. Idil et al. (2018) found that seeking emergency care even when not needed is common in adults with chronic conditions. The prevention sector has been sagging for a long time, and current strategies are not working. Levine et al. (2019) suggest that a tremendous overhaul of health care and the delivery of preventive care and education is needed.
Conclusion
In conclusion, there is a need to shift specifically to disease prevention and avoid the development of the acute stage of chronic disease. It will inform the population and help them understand how to help their condition. In health care, it will reorganize resources and direct them to critical cases.
