American nationhood refers to the way people in America are united in various activities to an extent of even having a common government; which resulted in the formation of the United States of America. More precisely American nationhood refers to the national cohesion and unity among the Americans and how they are brought together by the things they share and have in common. There are various items, documents, artifacts or people which have led to the development of this nationhood among the Americans. Generally the development of the nationhood was contributed by these items, documents, artifacts or people;. which in one way or another helped the development and the strengthening of this unity among the Americans (Gephardt, 1984).
First, religion was one of the major factors that initiated the development of nationhood in America. Initially, the diversity of religions among the Americans led to the diversity in lifestyles among various religions in America. This is because various people from different parts of America adopted various religious institutions, which resulted into the lack of unity among the residents of America. More specifically, the development of a common religion in America as a result of the civilization of European countries led to the development of Christianity which up to now remains one of the main abiding factors in America. The study of religion was very important in the sense that it formed the basis for civilization in America (Graebnor, 1978).
The civil war era is also another event that led to the development of nationhood in America. In the 19th century the southern and the northern white Americans had to come back to the reconciliation of their fundamental differences in the governmental organization, and the economic status of the country. More importantly was that theses two regions resolved to come together so as to restructure the reincarnated situation during the colonial era which led to the formation of the United States of America.
This study is very important because as it is depicted in the era of the civil war, significant development of various technologies developed within the two regions as they devised higher tactics of winning in the war (Gephardt, 1984).
Reconstruction of the army was also another important event to consider which led to significant development of the American nationhood. During the colonial era the army was very much devastated; during which in the northern and southern America peace was lacking which in the real sense was as a result of the interwar era. The reconstruction of the army was marked by a significant unity among the Americans, which helped to restore peace between the two regions (Santa, 1984).
The reconstruction and the rise of industrialization; which took place between the years 1865 and 1890 was a significant event that also contributed to the development of nationhood in America. Industrialization started as a result of the civilization among the Americans in which the transfer of technology from Europe and the Middle East as a result of slavery and colonization; placed America at a higher potential to industrialization (Gephardt, 1984).
Free international trade also formed a very strong basis for the development of the nationhood among the Americans. The period between 1875 and 1900 in America formed a fundamental initiation of the interaction between the northern and the southern Americans; which resulted in the formation of the United States among the two regions. This study is very vital in the sense that due to the current trends in modernization and the high rise in technology; the international trade among nations has led to a significant increase in peace among the people (Graebnor, 1978).
Shay’s rebellion also formed a basis for the reconstruction of the devastated economic conditions in America leading to the formation of nationhood in America. The conflict among various states in America; who later came to a reconciliation through the signing of peace treaties further led to the ultimate formation of the United States of America. In America, this was the period between 1785 and 1789 in which afterwards peace was evident; following the formation of the American states. This is of a crucial importance because from the current trend of global issues; it has been observed that it is out of conflict that peace development can be based (Gephardt, 1984).
Conservative leaders also from both the northern and the southern American regions formed a basic condition for the safeguarding of their wealth and position; which in one way or another led to the maintenance of the country’s national resources as well as promoting unity among the various states in both northern and southern America; leading to the formation of the united states of America. Generally these leaders wanted to facilitate the amendment of various articles, formulated by the representatives of the northern and the southern American states. This study is important in the sense that it explains where the country originated from and the significance of state leaders; as they would offer a proactive protection of the states’ national wealth (Graebnor, 1978).
Continental congress on the other hand led to the development of the reconciliation process with the England government. In fact, this reconciliation of the European countries and the American states helped in the reinforcement of the peace in the American states. This was the initial development of the unity of the northern and southern states in America; leading to the formation of the United States of America (Gephardt, 1984).
Slavery trade was also another important factor that led to the development of the nationhood in America. Many slaves from Africa and the Middle East were taken to America creating free or cheap labor; for most development projects in the northern and the southern American regions. This slavery trade brought the southern and northern American together to acquire such cheap labor from the African and Middle East countries; leading to the formation of the United States of America. This was of a crucial importance in the sense that the country was set into a firm foundation of capital materials; leading to the establishment of the current conducive economical status of the United States economy (Santa, 1984).
Lastly the immigration of Israelites from the Middle East in fear of the inter-regional wars in that region also contributed to the development of the United States of America. These Israelites came with high technological know how in which they constituted the United States’ most skilled labor; which was used for the construction of most capital goods and development projects increasing the unity among American states (Gephardt, 1984).
The development of nationhood among American was a long process that resulted from various instances that seemed to challenge the states in America; in which they resulted forming a coalition which hitherto brought the existing peace in the United States of America today.
