Introduction
In order to understand the different factors that affect the functioning of the DVB-T tuner when used together with the Nebula DigiTV software, a clear depiction of the features, characteristics and capabilities of both hardware and software components must be established. This report aims at identifying some of these features. It primarily seeks to examine numerous characteristics of phenomena over a period of time, employing a scientific approach in order to understand the various components of hardware and software. This study aims at establishing the factors that allow for the successful installation and use of the Nebula DigiTV software through the investigation of an array of factors that affect the combined use of the software and hardware components. It will seek to achieve this through careful analysis of relevant information sources detailing the performance of both hardware and software components, eventually establishing whether there are considerable differences in output resulting from the manner in which the hardware and software components are utilized. Considerable effort will also be attempted to point out the differences on a success and failure basis.
Objectives
This research study seeks:
- To understand how a DVB-T tuner functions when used together with the Nebula DigiTV software.
- To determine the features and capabilities of the Nebula DigiTV software and hardware.
A physical connection is often the initial requirement in order to enable the successful installation of any hardware component; which for the purposes of this study is composed of the DVB-T tuner, a USB hub and an external antenna. The DVB-T tuner needs to be powered on through the USB hub before the drivers are installed into its system. These drivers enable the installation of other software components into the tuner making it possible to receive digital television signals. The study also aims at further investigating the DVB-T tuner and other applications that are needed tor it to perform various functions. These other applications include successful tuning into free-to-air digital channels, recording a few segments of the channel’s playback and finally carrying out a transmission of the stream to a client’s computer, with a workstation configuration that allows for the receipt of the signal as a server.
In order to use DigiTV on a computer, the first step would involve connecting the hardware into the computer’s port in order with the help of the installation manual. The digital tuner would then be connected to an external antenna and a USB hub for extra power, and the USB hub in turn connected to the computer’s USB port. A window depicting “Found New Hardware” would appear in the windows operating system once all the hardware components are installed. A driver would then need to be installed in order to enable the use of the USB digital TV tuner after which the Nebula DigiTV application can be run. Once the application is up and running, selection of digital channels from the television can be done, allowing for one to watch the stream.
Features of DigiTV
DigiTV creates a platform that allows for a component to decode and view free-to-air digital terrestrial television and radio. It not only allows for the streaming of different shows at the same time; a feature that enables one to watch a show in one picture and another show in another picture but also has an integrated MPEG player for recorded files with digital content that can be played back and forth. DigiTV also has a wide screen with numerous display options, a clear program description and a fully integrated electronic program guide.
