Recently, people’s concerns regarding the growing levels of various diseases increased drastically. In The Human Experiment documentary, the specialists and ordinary persons discuss how chemicals used by numerous manufacturing corporations affect people’s health and become invisible killers. Notwithstanding one’s gender, physical form, activity level, genes, and other factors, more and more persons are now exposed to the deadly effects of chemicals. Terrible statistics continue to change: younger women and men who neither smoke nor drink alcohol get diagnosed with breast cancer; healthy couples cannot conceive a child; and autism rates are growing rapidly (Documentary for Better World, 2017). In the documentary, medical professionals state that genetics cannot be the primary cause of the aforementioned diseases, but chemicals can. While one may think that the dramatic growth of chemical levels over the last two decades is an awful mistake, the documentary shows that this is part of an evil political and economic plan. Generally, it is quite profitable and convenient for manufacturing corporations to poison people: they manage to save money simultaneously by purchasing and using cheaper unsafe substances and get more loyal customers as well. The latter is achieved by the following scheme: the chemical firms create their own false experts and data, insist on actual scientists being wrongful, and state that they themselves protect the freedom of their client’s choice. However, toxic chemicals continue to be added to plastic tableware, furniture, and food packaging, so people cannot actually avoid exposure. Instead of helping address the global threat, these manufacturers put their income above the health and well-being of society. Fortunately, as mentioned in The Human Experiment, some campaigns and activists try to increase awareness and stop the growing levels of unsafe chemicals that poison people around the world. Moreover, governments finally introduced more effective measures to fight such corporations. For instance, Europe decided to implement severe regulations of chemicals and make companies replace toxic components with safe ones. At the same time, some Chinese corporations make products so toxic that it is forbidden to sell them there, only in other countries. Overall, it is yet for people to discover whether the adverse impacts can be stopped and if the chemicals that are now considered safe will not poison future generations.
The information I learned from this documentary is shocking, and I would prefer not to believe it to live in peace. Nevertheless, it is always better to be aware of the hazards that we face every day and try to avoid their effects as much as possible. While it is terrible to learn that many food packages, elements of furniture, and plastic plates contain toxic chemicals, this is a rather predictable fact. What shocked me more was the manufacturing corporations’ conscious decision to continue to poison their clients in order to lower their costs and boost income. This is indeed dreadful that some people fail to recognize that we all need to care about each other to survive. The owners of such corporations do not think about their children’s and friends’ safety, or do they produce separate, safer products precisely for them? This is the question that bothered me when I watched the documentary. Many individuals get diagnosed with terrible diseases simply because other people want to earn more money. I hope that this issue will be effectively addressed further. While about ten years have passed since the production of the documentary, and most likely, the situation has changed for the better, the regulations cannot be weakened, and additional, more effective measures need to be introduced.
