Introduction

Human life is based on processes that bring them satisfaction and areas in their lives that they find tedious and irrelevant. For instance, while some people might enjoy education or their occupation responsibilities, others might be repulsed by them. In this case, such people’s needs might be unmet and they might need to find ways to improve their lives or make different processes more engaging. In my experience, I used to be indifferent to education and now I find it interesting since it is in alignment with my needs, and I have found approaches to make stressful processes more exciting.

Discussion

In education, what I find most satisfying is the process of communicating with other people and learning new perspectives on various topics. Sharing my ideas and learning something new from others is invigorating since it shows how many opinions there are. Another satisfying part about education is understanding that I am making progress. Similar to sports, I cannot see the results immediately and with small steps, the progress becomes visible. In education, I enjoy the fact that with the instructor’s guidance and other students’ insights, I am capable of mastering another field.

However, there are additionally dissatisfying parts of education that often discourage students. In my experience, the most dissatisfying part is having to learn a vast amount of material in a short time span. I am a person who understands information better with visual media, such as movies, graphs, tables, and others. However, some assignments require an immense amount of book reading, which lowers my productivity. I believe what can make this process more satisfying is combining reading with more visual tasks, such as watching videos or documentaries. Another dissatisfying part of education is striving to meet high expectations. I am a perfectionist and it is important to me to set goals for each subject to have the best results. However, in reality, I might not have enough time to satisfy all expectations and it can be overwhelming or stressful when everything does not go as planned. What can help me make this process more satisfying is praising myself for small achievements and incorporating more efficient time management skills.

The theory of satisfaction that best explains my actions is Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. This framework is based on the concept that all humans have needs, varying from fundamental physical needs and more spiritual needs, including self-realization (Hughes et al., 2021). At the given moment, I have secured my physical needs, safety needs, love and social belonging needs, and esteem needs and strive for the final level of self-actualization. It is important for me to live up to my potential, and I believe that constantly improving my knowledge and honing my skills and talents can help me. I am grateful that I do not need to focus on my basic needs, and this final tier is my main driver in life at the given moment. In the classroom setting and outside of the university, I focus on my interests and try to explore where I can apply my skills and how I can be a leader.

Conclusion

Hence, in my experience, I used to be uninterested in school but now find it intriguing because it meets my needs, and I have discovered methods to make tedious tasks more fun. My favorite aspects of education are interacting with others and discovering fresh viewpoints on a range of subjects. Seeing my growth is another rewarding aspect of education. However, there are unsatisfactory aspects of school that frequently demotivate learners. I have found that trying to absorb a great amount of information quickly is the least enjoyable aspect. Struggling to live up to high expectations is another unsatisfying aspect of education. Maslow’s hierarchy of wants is the theory of satisfaction that most effectively describes my behavior.
