It is noteworthy that the iPad is a revolutionary product with numerous implications for those in the business world. The same also applies to those who intend to use the product domestically. While several negatives have emanated from different quarters, the general feeling, and expectation is for the product to revolutionize the way business and other office work takes place.
Several factors guaranteed its positive reception, most notably the features it bears for its consumers. Foremost, the devise supports most of the applications that run on the iPhone, which was apple’s preceding invention. This makes it easier for users to have a transition from other devices to this with minimal discomfort and inconveniences. On comparison with similar gadgets in the market, the iPad offers better features, including a support for powerful hardware and a larger screen. The price of $400 for a base mold is also competitive in comparison to other competing devices (Topolsky 2010).
The appliance offers a better deal for its data package, since clients will be free to choose their favorite GSM network and subscribe for their data packages. These services are available without a contract, which infers the possibility of activating and deactivating the service on convenience by the user. Every device comes with this option. It is notable that the device retails unlocked, although; its original design suits the AT&T network (Apple 2011).
The device offers editors and other interested persons a feature that has been lacking in most of apple’s inventions, external keyboard compatibility. This comes in a package sold separately, which includes a dock and an aluminum keyboard. It is noteworthy that Bluetooth keyboards are also compatible with the gadget (Loyola 2010). This increases efficiency for typing tasks that require execution on the device.
The device supports several third party applications, including iWork and ePub. The former enables users to view pictures, besides creating documents, spreadsheets and keynote presentations from their gadgets. The latter application suits online readers, since it allows them faster and better access to eBooks. Most notable is the fact that ePub has been adopted by an internationally acclaimed forum for digital publishers. This makes it easy for publishers to avail their electronic publications for online readers and iPad users (Mathis 2011).
Several players in the industry and market observers have lauded the initiative by apple to create software for the new device. This increases its versatility and gives it a competitive edge. In order to increase their market share, it is imperative for apple to increase the versatility of their device by making it compatible to various off the shelf software products. This will enable a smooth transition from net books and other competing devices (Kelly 2010). Summarily, the product is already a favorite with users in the market. This does not overshadow that the fact that the device may not achieve its full potential. In order to achieve this, apple should allow developers to create programs for this device, just as they did with the iPhone. This will ensure full utilization by the clientele. Only then, will the product realize its full potential and take up its rightful place as a market leader (Topolsky 2010).
