The technology I want to review is Kindle, which offers safe e-book browsing for kids. Because of its safety, children of all ages can use this device (Kucirkova). This technology has many advantages, for example, the ability to work with text: leave notes, highlight and save quotes and paragraphs. Another advantage of the Kindle device may be its capacity: thousands of books, encyclopedias, or albums can be in it.
Technology Assessment
The first evaluation criterion in the ISTE Standards-Based Technology Integration rubric for educators is the teacher’s willingness to continually improve their practice by learning new technologies. The teacher I worked with was constantly improving his skills in this area; he was well-versed in this technology and incorporated it into his annual goals, so this criterion could receive a “target” rating.
The next criterion is for the teacher to create an environment where all students can work with digital content and digital tools. This aspect receives an “emergin” rating because students can use technology to learn or teach and acquire knowledge.
The third aspect is the teacher’s demonstration of using digital tools and content properly. I rated this criterion as “target” because students had the experience of critically analyzing online resources for digital literacy, understanding the intellectual rights of online materials, and showing students the importance of their digital identity.
The fourth criterion is the teacher’s use of digital tools for collaboration between students, parents, and colleagues. This tool is not provided for collaboration, so this aspect gets a “novice” rating.
The fifth criterion, the teacher’s use of technology in the classroom to provide authentic instruction that meets content standards, is rated “emergin.” The teacher uses technology for the following purposes: to accommodate student differences and needs and to present instructional material in a meaningful way that promotes student understanding of the content.
The sixth criterion includes the teacher’s use of an innovative digital learning environment and is rated “emergin.” The teacher uses the online learning platform for the following purposes: to demonstrate competence in the topic and to allow students to use digital content in a meaningful and relevant way that promotes a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
The seventh aspect involves teacher management of technology use in the classroom and at home. The technology provided is organized so that students can access, use, and troubleshoot their own technology needs and use technology as a tool for learning, so this aspect receives a “target” rating.
