There are numerous events and drifts which has made an impact on the life of Oprah.
She is considered as the most popular TV Anchor, Influential person and one among the greatest American which the history has ever produced. Oprah was born on January 29, 1954 to unwed teen parents who were staying in Kosciusko, Mississippi. By birth itself she had lot problems to confront with. She was a black female, and was very poor. Her mother Vernita Lee was just eighteen years old when she was born, and was a house maid. Her father was doing his job in Armed forces. He was twenty years of age. His name was Vernon Winfrey. We can just imagine the kind of birth she had and the torture which she had to undergo where her parents had no time to look after her (Walker)..
The most constructive thing which happened in Oprah winfrey’s life was that for the first six years of her life she was brought up in the place, Mississippi by her grandmother. It actually saved her life from the dreadful birth and of course the gender which she had. The affection for reading which she has accomplished now is mostly due to her Grandmother who trained her to read at a very premature age and also developed in her the love for reading. Moreover her grandmother used to say that she was really gifted and that was the dose of inspirational medicine which she wanted. Also her grandmother used to narrate so many historic events which really had a tremendous impact on the future life of Oprah. To everyone’s surprise, Oprah began her Public speaking job at a tender age of three. She started to read out loud and also delivered discourse at the church. The dark days in Oprah’s life started very early in her childhood. When she was 6 years her grandmother became sick and she was again sent back to live with her mother in the place called Milwaukee. There she lived with her mother and half sister Patricia in a boarding house. Her mother who was employed as a maid in cleaning houses had modest time to spend with the children since she had to work hard for maintaining them. Then at the age of 9, Oprah and her sister was left with their cousin, who was given the duty to take care of them. Then the horrifying incident happened in Oprah’s life, which was when her cousin raped her. Ironically she was again physically abused by a person who was close to the family and an uncle a couple of years afterwards, but the unfortunate Oprah kept soundless on the topic. She felt anger and pain inside and she started to rebel. She frequently ran away and got into more serious difficulties. Her mother finally decided to put her in detention home, but as luck favours the brave she was denied admission because there were no vacancies. Finally the mother got fed up and she was send away to live with her father, Vernon Winfrey and step mother Zelma. They were happy to keep Oprah since they didn’t have any children.. But at the age of 14 Oprah discovered that she was expecting a child. She revealed this to her father. When her father came to know about this, she was instantly taken to labor room and she delivered a baby boy who expired within two weeks of birth. The death of her baby boy broke her but she sweared to turn her life around. The experience with her father and step mother was like a second gift to her. They admitted her back in school, where she joined as a third grade student. She was happy that they gave emphasis to education. Oprah also started to go to the church frequently and gave public speaking. After she got her third grade her father took her back to the mother. Oprah then decided to stay with her mother and started her fourth grade in Milwaukee. It was here in Milwaukee that Oprah turned attention to a television company and also she developed her first thought of becoming famous. When she was nineteen years old, Oprah got her first job as a staff reporter for a radio station in Nashville, a place in America. She had also pursed her career in radio and television broadcasting from Tennessee State University where she have won several awards. Oprah Winfrey has not looked back then onwards and is going from strength to strength. She has won several awards and has featured in numerous events. It is really uncountable as of now. In 1986 she started her Oprah show and has not looked back since (Walker).
