One of the least popular types of performances at the moment is plays. This is because films are now becoming more widespread in cinemas or at home. However, plays can be exciting and fascinating and raise essential topics at the same time. Thus, I recently attended the play “The Little Mermaid,” which left an indelible impression on me. The fairy tale familiar to me from childhood received a new outfit in the play through the outstanding play of actors, costumes, and props.
The first thing I would like to mention when talking about the play “The Little Mermaid” is the costumes. I believe that this component has sufficient value since the costume designers had the task of creating clothes for the characters who are underwater and swim with their tails. Hence, the workers of the play coped perfectly with the goal set for them since the actors’ costumes were perfectly matched, conveyed the temperament and character of the protagonists, and made it clear who was good and who was terrible.
The next aspect that is also of profound importance for creating a positive impression of the play is the stage and the props. Thus, this task was difficult, as were the costumes, since the creators needed to immerse the audience in the magical world underwater. On the one hand, this may seem like an easy goal since most of the action takes place in the open ocean. On the other hand, the underwater world of the main characters is significantly different from what the world is on the surface. I was particularly impressed by the throne of King Triton, which consisted of a large shell.
For a deeper immersion of the audience into the atmosphere of the play, many props were used. They have a special meaning, as they enhance the performance on stage (Sanders, 2020). Thus, props such as the king’s trident or attributes that mermaids use in everyday life were used. Of particular importance were such props as a fork, which Ariel used as a comb. Therefore, it played a role in providing an understanding that the girl came from another world and the world of people was alien to her.
I can say with confidence that I enjoyed the play. Firstly, this is due to the fact that I have loved this story, and everything connected with it since childhood. Watching her on the big stage only strengthened my favorable attitude towards her. Secondly, I managed to become a spectator of the beautiful acting and skillfully selected scenery, which helped to improve the overall impression of the play. I can say that, to some extent, I can identify with the character of the little mermaid in the sense that I can be just as selfless, open, and show great interest in the unknown. It is also worth noting that I do not have characters that I would not like because I believe that everyone has his qualities and his own motivation that deserves recognition.
In conclusion, I can say that I liked the play “The Little Mermaid,” and I would give it a score of nine out of ten. This high rating is due to the fact that the actors of the play left a memorable indelible impression on me with their performance. Moreover, I think that the costume designers and directors have done an excellent job in conveying the atmosphere of the underwater world and all the details that are inherent in it. Therefore, I would advise everyone to visit this play, as I believe that it may be interesting for children and adults.
