Increasingly, people are faced with mediocrity in their lives, as they believe that it is something in between good and evil. Seth Godin says that when people choose between where to have lunch or which employee to hire, they most often choose mediocrely (Selling Power, 2008). This topic is becoming more relevant as people stop selecting the best, and when choosing something mediocre, they face various problems and contradictions. Another critical issue of the video is that people are increasingly selling in advance, even before they decide what to buy.
The topic of mediocrity is significant because it often carries a lot of negative things that violate various aspects of people’s lives. Probably, mediocrity will soon be accepted as something standard and ordinary that will have a significant impact on the degradation of society, goods, services, and all other aspects of people’s lives. For example, manufacturers will note that consumers prefer mediocre to the best, and the quality of manufactured goods will fall. As for society, morality will also suffer from this mediocrity.
Thus, mediocrity will breed losers since standards will not grow, and success will not either. Previously, prosperous, and purposeful people had priority. When applying for a job, the best of the best were chosen, and only the highest quality goods were selected. In modern times, people are content with little and ready to acquire mediocrity, so it is considered that it is between good and evil. Soon mediocrity will be accepted by society as something normal and natural. Undoubtedly, over time, this will lead to the degradation of humanity itself, to a decline in the quality of work and production of goods and services.
