Introduction
The problem of the perception of all members of the LGBT community occupies the highest position and is discussed everywhere due to its complexity. Nevertheless, all people are the same by nature, and despite their peculiarities, everyone has the right to exist, develop and function in society. This work contains the conclusion of the analysis of self-presentation by homosexuals using the film My State of Idaho and the book The City of Night.
Discussion
Same-sex relationships have been forming for a long time. Since the 1960s, Western culture has gradually legalized homosexual acts between people by their consent (Homosexuality: Law, Ethics, and the Bible). At the moment, about three percent of men in America are homosexuals (Clowes). Many historians and researchers fighting for gay rights created scientific works highlighting famous personalities belonging to these minorities (Pickett). Also, John Rechy, in his novel of the same name City of Night, was engaged in exposing many personalities. According to the book, the “young man” works as a Hustler and travels around the country searching for a better life, meeting gays and lesbians on the way (Rechy). The film My State of Idaho is a picture demonstrating a protest against the humiliation and rejection of gays in society, the plot of which is based on the adventures of two hustlers (Parallel). Thus, gay surveillance finds its beginning in the twentieth century, and many public figures are fighting for the rights of gay people.
One of the many oppositions to gay relationships is religion. Religion can play a central role in people’s lives and influence their attitudes, as many still support certain religious denominations (Janssen and Scheepers).
Conclusion
In conclusion, considering this issue globally, it can be understood that the perspective on the acceptance of homosexuality among people who live in a particular country is different. Western Europe and American people treat gays with greater understanding than the residents of Ukraine, Russia, the East, and African countries (Poushter and Kent). Political freedom is a crucial factor determining education’s influence on public opinion (Zhang and Brim). Thus, the organization of sexuality becomes an essential way of organizing a political body (Left). Undoubtedly, announcing your orientation is not an easy decision, and it always remains the freedom of the person himself. It is necessary to support gay communities either by simply not expressing any negative or by moral assistance to establish their comfortable existence in modern society.
