Introduction

The Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) was the most common cause of deaths in the United States in 2010 (AHRQ report, 2014). Total cost of the CVD for the US taxpayers was $315.4 billion in 2010 (AHRQ report, 2014). These two facts along with a row of other pieces of the thought-provoking statistics suggest that there is still much work left for the health care professionals in the field of the CVD detection, care, and prevention. This paper will observe the problems associated with the CVD care.

Main body

The problems associated with the CVD care are complex and multidimensional. This is explained by the fact that the CVD in itself is a complex condition that may have multiple types and various manifestations. The major types of the CVD are Coronary Heart Disease, Peripheral Artery Disease, stroke, and aortic disease (McCance, Huether, Brashers, & Rote, 2013). When it comes to all types of the CVD, the health professionals’ main concerns are to (1) detect the disease as early as possible; (2) help the patient to minimize the harmful effects of the disease by means of the medicinal treatment; and (3) educate the patient and one’s family regarding the measures that can be taken to assist one in functioning effectively and striving to improve the health status (Grotta, 2014).

According to AHRQ report, many of the people affected by the CVD do not know about it even though they are aware of having its symptoms such as the high blood pressure and high rate of lipids in the blood (AHRQ report, 2014). In addition, there are the national minorities who are subjected to the higher risks of the CVD, but they do not get the essential help due to many reasons (AHRQ report, 2014). The findings of AHRQ report influence the outcomes for an individual patient and family by stressing the importance of regular screening for the high blood pressure and high lipids in blood for all, especially for people from the vulnerable minority groups. Besides, these findings an important understanding provide to all people on living the healthy lifestyle with the sufficient physical activity and healthy diet.

In Georgia, the state health department has launched a row of the programs to help diagnose the CVD in the population and educate people about the preventive measures that can be taken to improve their health status. The Community Public Health Grant Program is one of the resultant initiatives helping to identify the CVD in the diverse community populations (GHSU, 2014). Evaluating the consistence of the existing programs with the problems identified in AHRQ report, it is important to note that they closely match the objectives identified by AHRQ report, both by the regular screening for the risks of CVD, and assessing the health status in the vulnerable categories of patients.

Conclusion

In conclusion, CVD is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in the US. The negative impact of this disease on the population and economy remains a complicated issue for decades. With this difficulty in mind, Georgia health department has initiated a row of programs aiming to screen the vulnerable populations in terms of the risk factors presence and educate people about the preventive measures that can be taken to improve their health status. Review of these initiatives has demonstrated that they are in full accord with the objectives identified in AHRQ report.
