Abstract
Most of the time, the achievement that learners get does not have any effect on the faculty members, not even an iota of pride. The faculty members prepare learners to face a world that often seems imaginary. Learners spend their four years in institutions of higher learning and at times are forced to drop out of the institution whenever they fail. However, the author of this speech presents a different scenario.
The author illustrates the activities that faculty members go through in the course of offering education to learners. According to the text, it is evident that faculty members play a significant role especially when it comes to dealing with learners who do not understand why they are in university. The text outlines the importance of taking one’s work seriously, accepting errors, as well as working hard to earn what one wishes to have. Generally, the author outlines that outside the university life, learners are faced with several challenges that they have not been used to; challenges that if one overcomes them, they are thought of as heroes. As such, if one confronts challenges by quitting, they will likely change adversely.
Critique
A review of the text indicates that the author is concerned with the life of learners out of the university. As evident from the text, faculty members have a lot of experience dealing with learners. Even though they face hard times, they do little to reprimand the learners. For example, the author points out that learners at times can go past the usual, are boring, fail to honor their appointments, or even when they do not submit their work as per the deadline, the faculty members are lenient with them.
Besides, the text presents a scenario whereby college life seems to be easy, and everything works for the best interest of the learners. As for the faculty members, they do everything in their capacity to ensure learners complete their studies.
For instance, even if learners fail in their deadlines, the faculty members set new ones. According to the author, pretense is a common feature among faculty members. They pretend in almost everything to make sure that they accommodate the learners. Even in circumstances where the learners are dull, the faculty members assume that they are smart. Additionally, the faculty members have often been ready to listen to learners’ routine, unimaginable, as well as predictable ideas.
From the foregoing, it suffices that the author presents the points about the struggle that faculty members have to go through each day of their life well. However, as it can be inferred from the text learners take little or no time at all to reflect on their life after college. This explains why they do not work to meet their deadlines or even why they are not responsible for their errors. The learner’s world is altogether forgiving one.
Eventually, learners get out of college without the real idea of what life out of college is all about. If the faculty could take time to guide learners into the real picture of life after college, then they would be in a position to handle life’s challenges without quitting. Instead, the faculty confines learners within education rules thus providing them with the opposite of what to expect after university; unchallenging, interesting, comfortable, forgiving, attentive, and easy life.
