The circumstance under which Bobinot and his son, Bibi, wait for a storm in the general store displays profound implications on the plot and flow of events in the entire story. In essence, if they had gone home, a major disaster could have unfolded where they could have caught his wife engaging in an affair. The prevailing encounter ensures the protection of their relationships, and he showcases his love for the family in different ways. Some of the moments that emphasize Bonbinot’s love for his wife include the scenario where he uses sticks to scrape mud from the son’s leg and then carefully eliminate all traces from the heavy brogans before entering the house to avoid angering his wife by the mess.
