Personal attitude towards the post of Nurse Manager will be highlighted. Fifth, professional development and required skills will be emphasized.
Observations
The example of the conflict situation was related to the relationships between the clinician and nurse. The doctor recently completed their residency and came to work in the department. An experienced nurse sees shortcomings in work and offers help. The young doctor points out to her the chain of command. The nurse starts discussing the doctor’s appointments with other staff members. The manager solved the issue by collaborating with both sides, highlighting the company’s values and mission. The primary position was that disrespect within personnel is unacceptable because it affects the general condition of workers and, as a result, decreases the quality of care. Such actions are the practical appliance of the transformational leadership approach (Cherry, 2022). It was vital for the manager to be ready to persuade both sides to show respect and readiness to solve the problem.
Reflections
Initially, the Nurse Manager was primarily responsible for providing general support and instructions given to personnel. However, after being plunged into the working atmosphere, I realized that the role of the Nurse Manager is to direct and support clear communication between the workers and administration, being able to solve conflicts without harming the quality of care.
My personal preference in the leadership style is transformational leadership. According to researchers, it is a theory of leadership in which the leader works with teams or followers beyond their immediate self-interest to determine the necessary changes, creating the group’s vision (Cherry, 2022). Such an approach helps to establish a trustful and efficient corporative culture combined with the adequate realization of the workers’ needs.
To achieve leadership and results that exceed expectations as a transformative leader, skills such as high communication and flexibility, high ethical standards, sincerity, and the ability to lead people are needed. The mentioned skills will help the organization to increase its effectiveness because the healthcare sphere requires a well-formulized view, which can change the personnel’s perception without harming their personal preferences. A high level of communication can help to adjust the contact and establish a problem-solving method of communication. At the same time, formulating a clear organizational vision and leading and persuading people can help advance the organization’s ideology, motivating employees to work for the particular positive vision.
Professional Development
I want to take the position of Nurse Manager in this organization. I agree with the mission and values of the company. Thus, I can support the nurses and clinicians by utilizing the transformational leadership approach. The most vital skill I need to develop is the ability to separate my personal needs and workers’ desires. It is essential to avoid forcing opinions. The values advance should be accurate. I need to focus on reflective or passive learning as the professional development strategy. It will allow me to analyze the inner structure of the organization and understand the methods which are effective for the particular personnel.
