Introduction

In this essay, it will be clearly shown that the concept of globalization, economic deprivation, and the sociological aspect or heritage of a particular host nation can be clearly affected by tourism. In the concept of heritage, tourism results in the loss of the historical past since as the host nation continues receiving more and more tourists, this in turn results in the ape of the cultures, therefore, embarking them looses. The loss of the cultural heritage of a particular host nation is usually common especially with the introduction of new ideas that are aped from the tourists by the host nation.

Tourism social and cultural effects

Tourism is a cause and as well as an effect of globalization. The movement of tourism graphically illustrates the condensed importance of both political and geographical barriers. Tourism is a key mechanism in the transfer of modernity. Tourists carry their cultures with them and tend to brandish them for their hosts to see. Tourists transfer their cultures from Western to host societies (Meethan & Kevin 2001). It affects societies because they tend to do or act like these tourists. Societies copy so many things from the tourists. For example, the way of their dressing and their behavior at large.

Globalization and tourism

Tourism is both a cause plus an effect of globalization. The advances in transport and communication that are connected with globalization seem to be closely connected to the growth of tourism. As globalization involves greater interdependence at social, economic, and political levels; tourism epitomizes the necessity for trust and it is associated with the awareness of taking risks that differentiate modernity (Harrison, 1995).

The incredibly shrinking world has improved transport and communications during the industrial revolution which makes travel quite easier and safer throughout the developed societies. Globalization does not originate from the West but sometimes it does and it varies in force and effect across the sectors. Through globalization production techniques are transferred more easily than cultural practices which seem to be more resistant to change (Mazanec, 1991).

Tourism can also be seen as an economic destroyer and at the same time, a great economic booster since as it can be portrayed the benefits that are realized by the foreigners are more as compared to that realized by the member of the host nation. Though the tourist impact positively to the uplifting in the Gross domestic product of a given host nation gross domestic products that are incurred by the host nation. In most of these situations, it is always the tourists who are treated in accordance to the most specialized aspect as compared to the members of the host nation thus, in turn, depriving the economic growth of the same nation (Yahya & Faizal et al 2002).

On the other hand, as much as there is much generated from the tourist sector and only a small number of people can be able to benefit from it, therefore limiting the progression of the other se tore of the economy since the host nation will strive hard to rely on the sector that boosts its gross domestic product and on the other hand leaving the other sectors that can also be of development and productivity with now people to be employed (Pohost, 1997).

Conclusion

It has clearly been shown from above that tourism in as much as it has positive effects like promotion of culture to the world it has a quite massive negative effect on the culture and the heritage of the indigenous people in that as the interaction between the tourists and the locals increase, the locals develop this notion that the culture of the visitors is better than theirs and hence begin to ape the way of the tourists, losing their own cultural values and their authenticity.

As I have shown from the discussion, the economic cost of tourism helps positively in that the generated income is vital to the contribution of countries’ annual income that is through revenues like taxes generated from tourism. This helps a country to generate income and employment opportunities for its people and thus the economy of a country that heavily depends on tourism is effectively improved. But on the other hand, developing countries that heavily rely on tourism become so over-dependent on tourism hence leaving the industries unexploited

I can conclude that tourism has other negative effects on the society and cultures of the people of the indigenous country. That is as the socialization process continues; the interaction brings with it the moral deterioration of some societies as cases of prostitution increase. This weakens the moral values of society. As globalization continues to increase the world is becoming so small the communities of the world are trying to adopt one way of lifestyle so that they can be able to communicate effectively and understand each other. As a result, the diversity of the human race is going down a factor that will make human diversity diminish in many years to come.
