Transformational leaders are typified by the ability to influence change. They are able to marshal followers support through ambitious visions and development of effective roadmaps for encouraging their attainment. These leaders redefine their follower’s objectives through different sources of motivation for the overall benefit of the organization. Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the incumbent deputy president and Premier of the United Arab Emirates, is a classic example of a transformational leader. He has instituted major reforms in all sectors of the economy since gaining power in 2006. For instance, he has effectively managed to give his “organization” a new form through top-notch projects, such as Jumeirah Group and Emirates Airline. Transformational leaders are inspired by the progress of their followers.
Sheikh Mohammed, as the premier is commonly renowned, possesses a number of characteristics and qualities that makes him as a transformational leader. One of his most noticeable qualities is that he is purpose driven (Lussier & Achua, 2014). His Highness has encouraged the initiation and implementation of grandiose projects in his country. The Burj Al Arab hotel, Technology Park, as well as free economic zone are among those projects initiated under his leadership. In addition, he is an inspiring and highly admired leader by a large number of people across the globe. He has been at the forefront in supporting and inspiring the development of Smart City; U.A.E’s sole green city. Moreover, His Highness is exceptional at intellectual stimulation. He has fostered the creation of an environment that has allowed his followers to rethink commonly held beliefs and notions.
Sheikh Mohammed always encourages a bipartisan approach to decision making. Although he is in charge of overseeing the affairs of his cabinet, he believes in the potential of those entrusted in running the various government departments. This demonstrates one of the reasons why he has successfully led his country to unprecedented changes over the last decade. Today his country is one of the established business hubs in the Middle East and a great tourist attraction. Among other things that has helped shape Sheikh Mohammed’s leadership qualities is culture. As a Muslim, he is conscious of the need for being concerned about the well-being of his people. He also abhors corruption, and other forms of self-centered approaches to wealth accumulation.
I always consider myself as a transformational leader. I am inspired by uplifting the life of other people, especially the less fortunate in the society. In addition, I always develop clear visions to support the realization of my goals. I strongly believe that I posses the potential to be a distinguished transformational leader in the future. To achieve this objective, I need to be passionate about my work. To attain the status of a role model, a leader must be excited about his work and helping other people to improve their strengths. Therefore, I will need to learn ways of mentoring others. In addition, I need to define values by considering my most valuable personalities.
To sum up, transformational leaders are greatly moved by improving other people’s lifestyle. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed is an exemplar of this type of leadership. He has inspired the development of chief projects in his country through great visions that encourage their realization. Culture is one of the predominant factors that have shaped his leadership qualities. As a Muslim, he believes in improving the well-being of his followers.
