Introduction

Verbal communication is defined as communication using words. Verbal communication is very important to businesses, groups and good relationships. It has a very important role in our lives. It’s always important that verbal communication is in agreement with the non-verbal for them totally. For example, when an employer recognizes the efforts of his workers for the job well done by praising him, it should be followed with some activities such as increasing their salaries or awarding them. Thus this will be emphasizing his words. Verbal communication is mostly seen in public speaking when a person communicates to a large group of audience, for instance, businessmen leading meetings. A large number of people always find difficulties during public speaking due to the level of vulnerability needed. It’s always good to have full responsibility as a communicator when using verbal communication so as to earn more attention, thus advisable to think through what is on your mind that you wish to say before you let it out. Examples of verbal communication include debates, discussions, and dialogue (Brake, p. 45).

Barriers to international communication and their results

International miscommunication is a result of language which is a major problem to business communications. Hardships in languages may be a result of gross translation problems where the message is distorted by the translator to the audience. Presenting of distinctions from language to language and lastly, a problem of cultural variations among the speakers of the same language also leads to communication barriers.

The result of these language barriers leads to wastage of time, makes the audience feel tired and it’s also be seen to be a form of disrespect for the parties whose language the message is being translated into. Cultural variations are seen from the accent of the communicators and these lead to the creation of international business communication barriers, in that they bring about negative feelings towards business ability, thus poor business performance due to regional prejudice.

Physical barriers such as environmental problems like climatical conditions, population density, poorly lighted areas and use of old-fashioned tools lead to international miscommunication. Noise makes the communication process to be hard and impossible. The result of environmental barriers to international communication is that they encourage poor participation during the meeting. For instance, this may be because of a hot or cold environment which causes discomfort to people. Population density leads to overcrowding thus the poor conception of the message being conveyed by the communicator, hence no way forward to business deals that are supposed to be met (Hall, p. 14).

Another factor that leads to international miscommunication is the lack of enough resources in the organizational design. This is a major problem because it makes people unaware of who they are supposed to communicate with so as to effectively solve a particular problem. Poor management in an organization leads to lack of clarity concerning the roles and responsibilities of the workers.

Lack of enough resources in organizational design always results into poor performance thus low productivity because people work without knowing what exactly is expected of them. They have no motivation to work, as they are not sure who they can approach and talk to.

Another international miscommunication is the attitude of the people. When an organization has little resources, then there will be communication problems. For instance, when the workers lack enough education concerning their work and no supervision, it makes them lose their morale as they are not motivated at all. This always results in low production in businesses and a lack of job satisfaction.

International miscommunication is also a result of barriers such as the psychological ones. An audience who is disturbed by a personal issue or distracted may not be in a position to receive and respond to the information or the message being passed on. This results in wastage of the communicator’s time since the message is not taken seriously by the audience (David, p. 28).

Cultural differences also lead to international miscommunication. There is always different communication in different cultures and thus these need the capability to translate the intentions, aspirations and values that help in solving problems. Different cultures have different views on distribution of the authority. This affects communication in businesses because it models up how the message will be received concerning the status or the rank of communicator to the receiver.

Public speaking fears and how they affect international presentation

Public speaking is the process of communicating to a group of people in either a deliberate manner or an intended way. The purpose of public speaking can be to entertain, pass on information, give motivation to others or just give out a story. Public speaking fears can be as a result of anxiety. Many people are scared of speaking in public especially for the first time, but as they proceed, the fear always tends to go away.

Anxiety can affect negatively affect the presentation process because the communicator is not comfortable and relaxed enough to convey the message required and thus there may result in a wrong message being presented.

Fear of losing. When a public speaker sees him/herself as not smart enough, or entertaining, they may not be in position to handle the task of public speaking especially when they are for international presentations. Due to this fear of loosing the presenter ends up lacking what to pass on to the audience, and thus not able to pass on the message.

How ineffective presentation can lead to barriers in international communication

Ineffective presentation can be as a result of a confusedmessage being presented to the audience. This happens when a presenter gives instructions which are not clear enough and thus ends up being misunderstood by the people listening to him. This poor communication can be a barrier to international communication because it interferes with way different cultures perceive the information as there will be unclear messages communicated. This can even result in conflicts among cultures.

Ineffective communication such as giving big or large messages can be a barrier to international communication because the message may be forgotten by the listeners as it is too big to be perceived and remembered. Also if the message was sent at the wrong time, it may not be received and thus a barrier to international communication.
