Website Design: When It Cannot Get Any Worse
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to you regarding the design of the site called Water Equipment Technology. Even though it offers fairly interesting information, it is designed horribly, which is why it attracts little to no viewers. Therefore, something has to be done to the site so that it could become more popular for an average Internet surfer.
The Font
There is nothing wrong with using several different fonts, or font colors, or combining bold font and italics on a single page. However, the given combinations must have a purpose; otherwise, the entire site will seem a huge experiment in bad taste, which is exactly the example of WET. To make the matter worse, the font often merges with the background, which does not allow reading the text.
It can be suggested that the Arial font, which was used for the given site, could be replaced with a more authentic font, with the addition of a couple of expressive fonts. Thus, one will be able to create a unique atmosphere and focus the reader’s attention on the text.
The Graphics
Perhaps, the graphic effects that were used to design the given site were a huge hit in the 2000s, but nowadays, when the world has seen some of the best website designs ever, the graphics of WET cannot get any more pathetic. Poorly shaped, poorly cut, and even more poorly integrated into the overall site design, the buttons look horrible. It can be suggested that, instead of buttons, a set of links should be provided. The designer mustn’t be afraid of simplifying the interface.
The Pictures
Picture frames must be banned from use on the Internet – especially white picture frames. Though there is only one with white edges on the given site, it turns the stomachs of the visitors.
The Text
One of the few positive features of the site is that it provides extensive information about the Water Equipment technology instead of filling the site with a meaningless trifle. However, even this impression is spoiled after the phrase “water supply” (Water Equipment Technology para. 1) appears more than once in one sentence.
Finally, the fact that the “Home Page” button emerges as one enters the site and, therefore, becomes completely useful since the visitor is already at the home page of the site is the last straw that breaks the camel’s back. Water Equipment Technology might be a good concept to look at and make use of, but the site that promotes it cannot get any possibly more awful.
The solution to the given problem seems obvious; after taking the Home Button away from the Home Page and placing it where it is required, one will have to work on texts, offering the audience the information that will make them curious enough to click the “read more” link.
Conclusion
Bottom line: this site looks terrible. The author might have many important things to say to the visitors, offering them extensive data on the latest innovations in water equipment technology, yet the designer of the site has no idea of how to make this information interesting to the visitors. The color cast chosen for the font makes one’s eyes bleed, the pictures are messy, and the graphics are horrible – it is a mess, and someone had better clear this mess up; otherwise, WET will become another synonym of “failure.”
