For so many decades, stratification in ethnicity and race has existed more than many people thought could last with the current trend of globalization. This problem is as old as mankind where people from one group or race used to believe they are better than others. In other words, some feel superior over others due to factors like place of origin, color, and ethnic group. In my country U.S, it was at the forefront during colonization and it had several colonies even overseas. This not being the only case, human trafficking was on the rise where people from their colonies were enslaved and made to do those jobs that were considered to be of their class (slaves). As prophesied by W.E.B. Dubois, he foresaw the challenges of stratification by color and ethnicity as being the major challenge in the twentieth century. By color, he meant the superiority that the whites will have over other races with different skin colors (Dan, 2005).
I would strongly say that the existing stratification by race and ethnicity which is manifested through education systems, politics, the state where they live, hospitals, social groupings can be dealt with as long as there will be a commitment from all stakeholders. The major way or method of dealing with this problem is through education. Education plays a very vital role for it is easier to come into an agreement with a learned person. By this I mean the educators’ sectors should start integrating people from all races regardless of their economic potentials. It is at this point where the government should chip in to assist children who ail from economically disadvantaged families to be able to attend such educational institutions.
Through education, it has become evident that other racial groups are also very intelligent and brave. This, therefore, calls for a well-organized system where these people can get employment in very good institutions. This will help the youth understand that other races are also bright and intelligent and as a result, there will be respect for them as well as improving on their socialization behavior.
Sports play a very important role in socialization. Through socialization, people can demystify the myths and prejudices they hold about others. It will be therefore paramount to organize interracial competitions after which a strong team can be formed from all the races. This will help in bringing cohesion amongst different ethnic groups and races.
Parents, media, and the state play a very important role in educating others (children or public) these groups of people can be utilized in educating their children and the public the importance of perceiving others as normal citizens and human beings, but not by the use of color or ethnic group. On the side of government, it should lead by example by appointing professionals even from the minor races and ethnic groups into the good posts in government as long as they have the required qualifications. The media should be at the forefront to launch a campaign against ethnicity and race stratification, educating the public on the benefits of teamwork and oneness towards development.
In conclusion, ethnic and racial stratification can be avoided if all stakeholders will take an active part in a common goal. The achievement will be realized and using the current trend where Barack Obama was elected as the U.S. president, it is now evident that people want to change which can be translated into how we view others and respect we accord to them.
