Undoubtedly, the issue of preparing for the baby is essential, and it touches almost every young couple, so the majority of people are familiar with it. Nowadays, more and more couples choose to build a career and become successful and find their fulfillment before thinking of having a child. This causes imbalances between people’s desires, abilities, and aims, which may lead to self-esteem problems.
The first important fact from the video is that self-confidence, based on a long-lasting career and social success, can be at risk because of the appearance of a baby in one’s life (Eidelman 00:02:20-00:02:43). Career-oriented individuals get confused when they face something they cannot deal with efficiently, which interrupts the way of life and schedule they are used to. It is hard for them to realize that the baby is more important than anything else they have ever faced. Self-perception can be strongly affected by the lack of experience in behaving oneself with the baby, and even trigger the idea of being not good enough as a mother.
Being a new parent is challenging for numerous reasons; most of them are familiar and easy to think of, but there are more interesting ones. For instance, the conflict between the parents and their baby is caused by differences in the perception of home (Eidelman 00:04:56-00:05:32). To my mind, this happens due to the changes in life goals that have been in process for decades. As the world is constantly becoming more fast-paced, it is harder for parents to understand children regarding their attitude to home as a safe space to explore and get acquainted with more objects.
Most importantly, there is a way of avoiding such problems. It was mentioned by Eidelman and is rational but still not obvious for young parents. The key to being a successful mother or father is to focus on yourself, emotions, body, and thoughts to provide the baby with all the needed resources. Being worn out, tired and worried, parents only contribute to the baby’s stress. Thus, it is crucial to concentrate on maintaining the parents’ well-being to get a healthy and happy child as a result.
