Work breakdown is an essential component of a project’s success. It is the basic building block to initiating, planning, implementing, supervising, and controlling processes used to manage projects. It holds extreme importance as it allows the team to structure the project into manageable deliverables, thereby enabling them to avoid missing tasks. Additionally, by clarifying the roles and responsibilities of every team member, the project planning accuracy is improved, and a baseline for project performance evaluation and control is set (Burghatte, 2019). As a result, the tasks related to creating the annual report in the canines’ research center will be distributed among the five team members based on their skills. For instance, the project manager, me, will be in charge of preparing for the board presentation and making final revisions. This is because it is only the project manager that directly reports to the board of directors; therefore, I will have a clear comprehension of the objectives that the board wants to achieve. This includes any activities that entail coming into contact with the board, and this is limited to the two before-mentioned tasks.
On the other hand, Jessica will be in charge of compiling all information comprising photos and graphics from clinics, veterinarians, human shelters, or care facilities required in the report. She was selected as she is the only member of the team skilled in photography. Isiah, as the marketing manager, will be assigned the role of marketing or solicitation. He has the skills and necessary expertise to identify ways through which the information in the report can be tuned to capture the attention of potential donors, therefore bringing funding. As a staff assistant, Dominique will be responsible for submitting RFPs for design, printing, and distribution. This is because this role is more inclined to administrative support, and as the staff assistant, her functions revolve around supporting other staff members. Stacy will prepare the draft review or board update as she possesses both excellent writing and editing skills. As a writer and editor, she can present the information in a manner that is easy to read and understood by the average current and potential donors. Lastly, since none of the staff members possess any skills geared towards designing, printing, and distributing, this task will be outsourced to a qualified contractor recruited from the RFPs.
