Workplace values are an integral part of any modern company. Effective workplace management requires certain values to be introduced to promote the workforce’s efficiency and positive organizational outcomes (Sharma, Khandelwal, & Agrawal, 2018). Such values also contribute significantly to the employees’ satisfaction and retention rates. In this paper, I will identify the values in my organization, a large cable entertainment company, and provide relevant examples from my experience.
The core value in my current workplace is loyalty to the company. There are many large cable entertainment companies, and the competition between them both for customers and efficient employees with relevant experience is considerable. The workplace promotes loyalty by recognizing the employees’ hard work and showing appreciation for it in the form of financial and other incentives. These measures make all personnel, including me, feel like a part of the family. This emotional connection to the place of work also encourages everyone to “go the extra mile to cooperate with others in the organization” (Marinova, Cao, & Park, 2019, p. 2055). For example, my current supervisor is an extreme micro-manager. However, I am willing to adapt to this behavior as I feel loyal to the company and know that my work is appreciated.
Another essential value in my workplace is being a reliable team member. Being respectful and supportive of others and working as a part of a team are the values that are actively promoted in the company (Sharma et al., 2018). It would be challenging to work for this organization without being able to cooperate with others as there are a lot of team projects and assignments that require the collaboration of several departments. As a contract administrator, I am tasked with evaluating and negotiating the company’s deals and have to be able to communicate clearly with both parties for them to reach an agreement.
Overall, any company needs to ensure that all employees are aware of and adhere to specific organizational values. Having such values promotes a more efficient workplace and contributes to the higher rates of human resource retainment and employee satisfaction. The company I work for has many core values, including loyalty to the organization that contributes to me adapting to others’ behavior and being a good team member.
