Introduction
Art is one kind of human activities, skills, creations and expressions that helps to attract an individual through stimulating human senses and mind by transmitting emotions and ideas. The art is also a quality that helps to make anything different and attractive. Art reflects the human imaginations and creativity, which is the parts of reality and an artist, recreates reality. Art also is medium of the thoughts, philosophy, views, values, attitudes and emotions of an artist.
There are various types of art such as music, dance, movies, theatre, and literature, nobles, poetry and painting picture. The art is the use of proficiency and imagination in the formation of visual substance, environment, or knowledge that can be shared with others. Again, anything made by an artist is art. The person who is efficient to do any specific activity is called artist. An artist may be in technical and non-technical sector. An artist makes his or her creations so that these things made by him or her can create a centre of attention in the human mind.
An artist is an important factor that helps to influence society, community and human moral values, ethics, living style, views, emotions, attitudes, culture, tradition and philosophy. Some times an artist becomes a leader of society with the help his or her art which leads the human mind and thought. As a result he she becomes a leader of society or community. The role of the artist as negotiators, whose manifestations, thoughts, emotional responses and capability can acquire a significant action on the world stage.
Again the role of artist is to make a visual record of the places, people, and events that surrounds them and to give observable or physical form to ideas, philosophies, or feelings. An artist wants to express with the help of his or her art, the economic, political, social, cultural and religious or philosophical conditions of the moment of the creation of the art. Art helps to communicate, increase humanity and develop morality.
Gormlie (2008) asserts that “[t]he role of the good artist is that of one who creates or helps to create good art that reflects reality, projects an awareness of the inhumane conditions of that reality, and ways to change those conditions”. A writer also is an artist who whites his or her thought, imagination, dreams, and philosophy in the art. A writer plays an important role to influence our cultures, traditions, values of society, to impact human thoughts, moral values and philosophy.
The Statement of William Faulkner
The Nobel Prize winning author Faulkner (2002) noted that “the writer’s only responsibility is to his art”. Since a writer can influence the society, community, humanity, the economic, political, social, cultural and religious or philosophical conditions, this study does not agree with this statement. From our early age we acquire our knowledge from society, environments, family, friends and books (stories, novels, poets and so on). Books are written by the writer who writes his or her observations about our economic, political, social, cultural and religious or philosophical conditions, his or her thoughts and views about the written the topics in the books.
Since books are influential matters in case of our views, mind and philosophy creation, besides his or her art a writer must have to fulfil the various responsibilities to the society and community. Some times a writer may be an idol of human being. He or she wants to think as like his or her model writer. Since a writer is an intellectual person for the society, writer must have to be responsible about what will be helpful for society and how the society will be benefited.
“Stephen King says, ‘Good writing is often about letting go of fear and affection.’ The key words are ‘letting go’. He continues that the writer will find himself by recognizing that writing is found in what you really love to read” (Fisher 2006). A film artist is also an influential factor of the society. Some times people want to be like their favourite male or female actors who act in the film as various characters. The writer writes the story of the film, hence the film artist and the film writer must be responsible for the society development.
Acting is one of the important medium of communication and with the help of it an actor can express his or her fallings and emotions, actual and original situations about the facts. A film is an arrangement of various acting and it also a combination thereof. A film means a story and it helps to influence the audiences in various ways. That’s why this study is disagreeing with this statement.
The responsibility of a Writer
There are various types of writers such as children writer, teenager writer, adult writer, women writer, short story writer, novel writer, film writer and so on. Every writer has various responsibilities besides his or her art. “The children’s writers have a responsibility to create an early awareness of such issues as race, terrorism, poverty, and other disasters of human society” (Meltzer 1989). The teenager writer’s responsibility is to give information about teenager problems and solutions, to create and improve awareness of proper care of teenagers and to supply proper guidelines to teenagers and their parents and also other members of society so that they can take care properly teenagers.
The adult writer’s responsibilities are to make humanity, honesty, prosperity, integrity, sincerity, punctuality, responsibility to society, community and other people of society, and so on among adults and to give proper instructions so that they can keep themselves on the way of success during life time. Women writer’s responsibilities are also to create awareness about women rights, powers, duties, authorities, responsibilities, and so on and to give proper instructions to women about what they should do, how they will do that and when they will do that. Novel writer’s responsibilities are to give a description on reality so that people can aware about it.
A novel writer normally writes based on real event that occurred or is occurring or based on his or her imaginations. The readers read that novel and think as real and acquire knowledge from it. As a result, a writer can easily make a society’s values, views and philosophy. Hence a novel writer must be written that type of novel which can help to improve our society.
Today is the as of technology and media is one of the important presentation of technology and with the help of its facilities our life style is changing dramatically and we are going to be technology dependent and our educational system, basic facilities system and entertainment system have been technology based. That‘s why the film writer is an important person of the society. A film writer basically makes his or her film as a story in various angles. Every audience means it as like themselves.
From this analysis, this study makes a list of writer’s responsibility
- To write novel, story, and so on as like time requirement or demand of time;
- To improve, develop and increase the society, community and people of the society’s values, culture, traditions and philosophy;
- To write as well as he or she can, as clearly as he or she can, and as honestly as he or she can;
- To observe deeply the economic, political, social, cultural and religious or philosophical conditions and situations of the community, society or country;
- To facilities the society and people of the society through supplying various types of information related of our life;
- To supply speed, sprite, awareness, instructions and courage during any important time such as liberation war;
- To supply new knowledge on new subjects, environments, events, imaginations and philosophy, thought and views of writer;
- To analysis the effect of his or her written books, compare it with what he or she expected from that books and want was the objectives of that books; and
- To maintain various types of welfare activities towards the society such as donation to charitable institutions.
The Responsibility of Artist
The creative vision of an artist can be utilized to construct art and to construct a new society, because these goals each depend on bringing into creation that which does not as yet exist. An artist can be a creative artist if he she follows his or her total responsibility to art and society. About the responsibility of artists, Silver says, “You can not just wake up be an artist. We come from a greater legacy of Excellency than that. Artists don not the luxury to not be political” (Ards).
An artist always will follow the effect of his or her art to society and people of society. People try to follow their favorite artist’s style, thoughts and views. An artist must be educated in art and it’s the responsibility of the artist to educate the public on what art is all about. An artist should act that type of characters so that these can be able to make a positive effect on the ordinances. That’s why he or she must be educated and must have better knowledge on art and the effect of art to people and society.
Conclusion
After analyzing the various responsibilities of writer and artist to society, community and people of society, this study wants to say that one of important responsibility of writer is to his or her art but it is not only responsibility because a writer or an artist is an important person of the society and he or can influence the society very quickly and the influence may be positive or negative. So he or she must follow the effect of his or her art and through it various responsibilities to society and the people of society should be fulfilled by the writer and artist otherwise they can not be a successful writer and artist.
