Opportunities for writing
Knowledge and ideas are dispensed through the art of writing. Writing can be described as an art of expressing thoughts and feelings through a medium for dissemination. It takes various forms depending on the objectives, techniques, and styles of the writer. The current civilization has immense opportunities for writers. Academic writing, for instance, is a major technique used for the purpose of presenting academic papers and research publications; it‘s predominant in learning institutions.
Journalism, on the other hand, is a form of writing that involves the investigation and search for information then publishing the findings for the sake of informing the general public. Other forms of writing include the artistic and creative act of novel writing for various purposes: entertainment or education of the society on topical issues.
Concerns and feelings on writing
Depending on the type of writing one undertakes, people have mixed feelings and attitudes on it. My personal feelings and concern are that writing should be a tool used to advance ideas and propagating knowledge. This knowledge should be new and original as experienced by the writer. As a scholar, I, therefore, feel that the information and knowledge advanced by any kind of writing should not be plagiarised to reproduce ideas of other individuals.
In academic writing, a form of writing that I frequently use, plagiarism is a prime concern and issue. This action clearly defiles the knowledge being propagated and can as well be described as rendering academia “absolutely superfluous.”
Those who engage in writing for the purpose of earning a living like journalists are exposed to a greater risk of losing their credibility and careers if they involve in such activities. Fareed Zakaria, the CNN TV, journalist lost his career credibility after accusations of plagiarism.
Good writing experience
As an academic writer with an interest in educational publications and research writings, one of the best feelings is to note that your research findings have been implemented and practically applied to contribute to the development of a society or to solve a given phenomenon in society. This occurs when the theoretical explanation of the research is replaced with the practical application.
Research generates knowledge for humanity advancement, my best experience came when a proposal we presented to the principal of my high school was implemented just as we suggested in a formal proposal to the administrator, this taught me that for our interests to be catered for in an environment, we must endeavor to outline our proposal and views to the stakeholders involved for the sake of building consensus.
Bad writing experience
Academic writers have always experienced perpetual challenges with the organizational structure, content, and objectivity of their papers. In research papers, clarity and organization of the paper are very significant, otherwise, this would lead to automatic rejection of the paper by the panel of academicians perusing the paper. This was one ugly experienced that I underwent as a writer. The research dissertation was dismissed citing numerous issues with the paper. The organizational structure and the content were rejected lacking consistency and general objectivity.
This experience taught me the need for proper organization when presenting an academic paper. Well researched papers should have adequate and cogent content. Academic papers should be objective and invariantly remain coherent to the readers.
