Psychology

The Question, Statement, or Claim for Exploration

Adulthood personality development is an issue that is often of keen interest to psychologists. I want to explore the evidence that childhood experiences are central to the development of these personalities. My interest extends to the development of given behavior and influences the type of adult that one becomes. I hope to suggest that childhood is the most sensitive stage, and it underpins how humans behave or treat others when adults.

A Description of the Final Academic Writing

I chose psychology because I have always been impressed by how our minds and behaviors are linked. Psychology is one of the most expansive fields, and it encompasses several other disciplines, including sports, clinical, human development, health, cognitive processes, and social behavior (Pérez-Álvarez 25). I was inspired by Carol Gilligan’s In a Different Voice: Psychological Theory and Women’s Development. She explores women from a unique perspective and, in the process, raises a new approach to how women’s psychology should and can be viewed (Gilligan 18). This simplified my view on psychology which I have often believed to be very complex. Psychology often tends to evoke a stream of thoughts and controversies as most renowned theorists have their perspectives which often seem correct. From this observation and that of Freud’s view, I can develop my theory on the origin of adulthood personality, and I think it is worth a try. This assessment might even provide me an opportunity to be a contributor to the psychological development of humans.

I chose this claim after interacting with Sigmund Freud’s theory of psychodynamic perspective. Freud proposes that human behavior is subject to the unconscious mind and that interpersonal behavior and childhood experiences are essential factors in explaining adult personalities (Pandit 13). While it might be a topic subject to controversy on several grounds, I believe that Freud explores a complete approach to the issue and rests the debate. This is an issue worthy of research, mainly because most parents are unaware of how they treat their children’s eventual adult life. Parents need not assume that parenthood is all about discipline. But instead, they need to take a wholesome approach to the issue. I am interested in evaluating Freud’s works to see his development of the theory and assess its efficacy and whether the claims he advances will be essential in educating and creating awareness on childhood upbringing and adult personalities, especially in today’s technological world.

This claim will require a lot of evidence to sustain the argument that childhood experiences affect adulthood experiences. Therefore, it must address the issue from the moment an individual is born up to the point they become adults. Consequently, it will explore the various age groups and the possible experiences across these ages, whether traumatic or not, and how they affect future life. In the discussion, I will discuss opposing views to this claim to provide context to the issue and illustrate how others view it. This will help compare and contrast my opinion on the influences and development of adulthood personalities on others (Fletcher and Schurer 101). My major claims are likely to revolve around exploring early childhood traumatic experiences and comparing those who lack these experiences. I will also evaluate the significance of growing mental conditions in adulthood to these factors as I try to establish the importance of maintaining proper care.

Additionally, the claim will look at theories on psychological and behavioral development. These factors are vital in explaining how and why individuals acquire certain personalities (Fletcher and Schurer 101). Therefore, they will underpin the understanding of the impacts of situations that define individuals and the influence that such instances have on individual character. Therefore, I will have to analyze and critique them to have a wholesome understanding of my claim.

The purpose of this academic writing will be to inform people about the influences behind their personalities. Most people are unaware of why or how they react to certain situations as they do. The reason is the lack of knowledge on the impact of given scenarios early in their lives. Most people ignore them as they seem to believe that recovery from such experiences is imminent (Bi et al. 17). The fact is that these scenarios live within the them and determine the kind of people they become in their workplaces, houses, or even how they relate with others. This is why this writing is dedicated majorly to adults and especially parents.

The disparities in how parenting is handled are my primary concern. People should be sensitive to the things they expose their children to and the things they expose themselves to in the process of parenting. Further, this piece will be critical in understanding how to approach therapies for specific psychological issues. It will help psychologists trace the origin of these mental issues and explain to the patients some of these reasons to facilitate faster recovery.

Nonetheless, at the end of this project, I primarily want to understand myself better. Most of the time, I question myself for acting in particular ways or react to given events. It concerns me, and I have always hoped to understand the reason behind given behaviors. Even though I fear that the findings might reveal certain inexplicable factors behind my childhood development, I believe it is essential for me to cultivate a different environment for my child. He or she should grow with a personality that defines him or her based on intuitive and intrinsic features and not the ones imposed by what I bring to their environment (Bi et al. 21). Moreover, I hope this major piece will improve my research skills since it requires intensive reading through all stages of development from childhood to adulthood and providing reviews through the stages appropriately.

Furthermore, I intend to improve my writing skills considerably. The task will allow me to learn from various essays and research papers done on the issue, which will expose me to different approaches in developing an appropriate paper. I also hope present a research paper adequately without missing any key points or omitting certain critical pieces of evidence. In the long run, I hope it will be the writing that will help change my life and those of others for the better, especially in how we view and understand our personalities.
