Today, the life of people with disabilities is problematic, despite all the existing communities. Most people actively try to integrate such people into the general society, but often, such things do not have a positive result. The main problem that arises is usually the problem of socialization and prejudice. Thus, most people who terminate their pregnancy do so because their embryo has been diagnosed with a particular defect.
More and more often, abortions are due to problems with the embryo and apparent Down syndrome. Most people do this procedure every day, which they should not judge because even though our society has taken a big step forward to accept different people and avoid discrimination, life for people with disabilities is still tricky (Parens, & Asch, 2003). It is worth paying attention to the fact that it is precise because of such things that terminations of pregnancy occur so that a person does not come into contact with obvious prejudices still actively spreading in society. Thus, the historical context plays an essential role in making such a decision.
Another problem that Erik Parens and Adrienne Asch reveal is that people do not want to raise such children. In this context, it is worth understanding that a person does not want to take on such responsibility because he understands that such children are challenging to raise. The problem is that they do not see the future opportunities offered to such people. Still, the problem lies more in society, which does not promote ideas and opportunities for such people and parents who take care of a child with Down syndrome (Parens, & Asch, 1999). Raising a child is complex, and raising a child with a disability is even more difficult, so it is not surprising that many parents choose the path of abortion and the termination of such a pregnancy.
Thus, it is worth talking about the frequent termination of pregnancy as the fact that disability is a critical thing for society. Abortion during pregnancy occurs mainly because of such disorders in the embryo’s development. In particular, it is essential that the historical context also guides many people since many people still do not have a good attitude toward people with specific disabilities. Therefore, abortion often becomes a way to secure the child’s future and make life easier for oneself.
