Childhood Period

The girl was brought up by her grandparents, and her childhood was full of debauchery and permissiveness. By the age of thirteen, the girl had already had many sexual partners and gave birth to one illegitimate child.
Adolescent Period

The adolescent period of Aileen Wuornos was very stormy, and later, her relatives expelled her from the house where she rarely lived. The girl began to lead an even more rampant lifestyle, wandering and doing prostitution. In order to change something in her life, at the age of twenty, she moved to Florida.
Adult Period
- A short marriage with a seventy-year-old man.
- The imprisonment for driving in the state of intoxication in 1974 (Jenkins, 2017).
- A suicide attempt in 1978 (“Aillen Wuornos biography,” 2017).
- An armed attack on the store in 1982 (“Aillen Wuornos biography,” 2017).
- Sexual relationship with a woman, which lasted for a long time (Jenkins, 2017).
- Prolonged prostitution and extortion.
After moving to Florida, Eileen had a short marriage with a seventy-year-old man, which, nevertheless, soon broke up due to the fact that the husband went to court, accusing his wife of constant beatings. Later, the woman was brought to criminal liability for driving under the influence of alcohol, and after attempted suicide and treatment in the hospital, she was imprisoned because of armed robbery. Having acquainted with the representative of non-traditional sexual orientation, Wuornos had a long relationship with her. However, the woman did not stop practicing prostituting.
Murder Series
- The series of murders began in 1989 (“Aillen Wuornos biography,” 2017).
- The first victim of Aileen was a shop owner.
- The next victim was forty-three-year-old David Spears, who was killed in 1990 (“Aillen Wuornos biography,” 2017).
- Forty-year-old Charles Carskaden continued the list of Wuornos.
- Another victim was a retired sailor who was also killed in 1990 (“Aillen Wuornos biography,” 2017).
- In the summer of 1990, Aileen killed a van driver (“Aillen Wuornos biography,” 2017).
Aileen Wuornos began her series of murders in 1989. For a short period, she killed seven people, and all of them were men. The woman had a special style, killing, as a rule, those who wanted to have an intimate relationship with her. The age of her victims exceeds the average indicator. As a weapon of murder, Wuornos always used a revolver.
Crimes and Consequences
- In the early autumn of 1990, Wuornos killed the sheriff (“Aillen Wuornos biography,” 2017).
- In late autumn, a sixty-year-old Walter Antonio was murdered (“Aillen Wuornos biography,” 2017).
- The murderer used false names.
- In 1991, Wuornos was arrested (“Aillen Wuornos biography,” 2017).
- Since 1993, Aileen waited for nine years for her execution (Jenkins, 2017).
- A lethal injection was made to the woman in 2002 (Jenkins, 2017).
The last victim of the serial killer was murdered in late 1990. A year later, the police were able to catch Aileen who periodically changed her names. In 1993, she was sentenced to death, largely due to the cooperation of her mistress with the investigation. After a lapse of nine years, Wuornos was executed by a lethal injection.
Theory of Pressure
- The gap between cultural norms and the goals of the society (Lee & Choi, 2014).
- Non-acceptance of social standards of life.
- Aspiration to change the attitude to oneself.
- Aileen’s deviant behavior is caused by an unfavorable past.
- Attempts to pay attention to oneself.
- Constant and unceasing pressure from others.
As one of the foundation concepts of Wuornos’ crimes, the theory of pressure can be applied (Lee & Choi, 2014). Its essence lies in the fact that an individual displays deviant behavior because he or she does not want to put up with the foundations of the society and tries to attract attention to oneself. Aileen’s unfavorable past is directly related to the manifestation of violence. Also, the woman was forced to experience constant pressure from others.
Theory of Differentiated Association
- Social groups influence the behavior of the individual (James & Proulx, 2014).
- Aileen’s crimes are caused by an unruly lifestyle.
- An imitation element is present in the actions of the criminal (James & Proulx, 2014).
- Murders are committed impulsively and spontaneously.
- Disrespect for the law is growing.
- The environment affects the manners of the criminal (Morrissey, 2014).
The theory of differentiated association implies a strong influence of social groups on the actions of the criminal and his or her habits (James & Proulx, 2014). Due to the fact that Wuornos led an antisocial lifestyle, her environment often influenced her deviant behavior. Disrespect for the law and disregard for the social norms of morality rapidly grew, which led to seven murders in a very short period of time.
Theory of Cultures Conflict
- The constant change of norms of behavior and views (Boyle & Reburn, 2015).
- Attachment to various social groups (Boyle & Reburn, 2015).
- The change of Wuornos’ sexual orientation confirms the application of this theory.
- Deviant behavior is formed through cultures conflict.
- The neglect of generally accepted norms of behavior.
- Aileen’s lack of moral qualities inherent in the representatives of a law-abiding society.
The theory of cultures conflict that can be applied in this case implies a constant change of views and behavior (Boyle & Reburn, 2015). One of the pieces of evidence is Wuornos’ intimate relationship with a woman. Constant conflicts with the society generated aggression and deviant behavior, which manifested itself in the form of murders. The moral principles of Aileen completely contradicted social norms.
